Like others who have dealt with Living Scriptures and gotten ripped off, I fell prey to the young return-missionary salesman who came to my door one summer's day. It didn't matter to the company, a few months later, when I realized what an expensive rip-off it was (36 bucks for 30 minutes of video? Come on! Nothings's THAT expensive!) that I was a struggling single mother who really, truly COULD NOT AFFORD the series.
Living Scriptures gave me the same song and dance it appears they have given other poor but good-hearted LDS families: Sorry, but you signed a contract. Pay up and get nothing, or keep paying.
Well, then it gets even worse. I got married 4 months after joining LSI. My husband was also a member. We began receiving duplicate copies of tapes I already had or DVD's of VHS programs my husband already owned. We tried to consolidate our accounts. At first, LSI catagorically refused to do that, siting the fact that we were not married when we signed the contracts. They didn't care that we were gettind duplicates at all, a struggling family of 4 with under 40,000 income per year.
But finally, at last, we found a friendly phone representative who readily agreed to consolidate our accounts. We were so relieved... until we received our first bill. They consolidated our accounts alright. They just added my $2,000-something bill to my husband's $1,000-something bill, put it all in his name, so it's all in one nice neat package of OVER $3,000!!! And we will STILL be receiving duplicates!!!
LSI are a bunch of RATS. I am ashamed to call myself LDS when I see how they entrap and lock good, honest-hearted families into huge financial debt - something which the prophets and apostles have openly preached against.
But, worse yet, LSI itself, and it's associates, Nest Family Entertainment, are apparently ashamed to call themselves LDS, too. Do you know who sits on the board at Nest? These same products sold as NEST to mainstream Christians are marketed by Living Scriptures to LDS families as being "safe", and teaching LDS doctrines. Well, they don't. Take a look at http://www.wholesomefamilyentertainment.com/nfart.html
Everything and anything remotely LDS-flavored or hinting at any LDS doctrine has been removed from Living Scriptures materials, and yet they are marketed to LDS families as such.
AND ONE FINAL COMPLAINT: Their videos aren't even scripturally accurate! For example, in the Abraham and Isaac video, a whole bunch of fictitious garbage is used while many of the real details are omitted... such as Hagar trying to help Isaac "accidentaly" drown in a the river, or Ishmael trying to push Isaac into a fire. Where is this in Genesis???? It's just as bad with the Book of Mormon stuff. Show me a verse where Nephi's little sister is specifically described? Nephi may have had sisters, but no where is there as much detail and attention given to any girl in the scriptural account as is given in the video. FINALLY, I have served in 4 Primary presidencies since 1998. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints specifically discourages any animated portrayal of Jesus Christ... but most LDS parents don't know this, and LSI doesn't bother to obey the Church on this or inform parents that a cartoon Jesus isn't quite Mormon kosher.

Living Scriptures animated stories are priced at $29.95 plus tax, shipping and hanling, while this price may initially seem high for a thirty minute DVD, it is important to know that each DVD contains 70,000 hand drawn art cells. The cost is over $18,000 per minute, and the product is sold in a Limited Christian market. Living Scriptures does not receive theatre, television or advertising revenues as other DVD producers, and thus the cost is slightly higher. In reality these DVD's should cost more. The DVD's are classics, they promote wholesome entertainment and they will never go out odf style. They will be enjoyed by generation after generation as parents and grandparents use them to teach positive values to their families.
Every customer is a unique individual with a unique set of circumstances. Living Scriptures will work with any customer who finds they are strugling financially, by offering temporary holds on accounts, slowing the number of shipments per month, slowing the shipping schedule, etc. These changes in the purchase agreement are a result of open dialogue with customers.
Living Scriptures and Nest Prodducts will not discriminate against any person's religion, beliefs,or Creed. Living Scriptures sells DVD and other products to any individuals who believe as we do, that these products will make a positive change in their lives.
The gospel stories and scripture passages are meticulously research and are scripurally accurate, however in order to teach the values being depicted, the stories must alos be interesting, thus the producers take some creative license to make the product not only educational, but entertaining as well.

To clarify my original Rip-Off Report: NEST Family Entertainment products are sold to mainstream Christians, while Living Scriptures markets to Christians who are LDS. The same tapes reviewed and scrutinized by the board of NEST to make sure there are no Mormon overtones (Old Testament and New Testament Series) are the very same tapes sold to Mormons as good, solid LDS entertainment, produced by an LDS company.
