I don't get mad at businesses easily, but I had a horrible experience with this business and it was over 11 months ago but I am still upset that they got away with this. What happened was I purchased a cute little one-piece lingerie for my honey for Christmas at this store. We were staying in Rochester, MN at the time.

It is an adult store, but very neat and "professionally" run, or at least I thought, so I wasn't too worried about having problems there. Well, I gave the gift to my wife and then she tells me that she does not like the color or style. Well, I just bought it and had the receipt, so I drive back there (about 20 minutes from Rochester, MN) and I could not believe my ears. I went to the same guy I bought this from and explained that she did not like it and I wanted a refund or get something different. (This item was not tried on and still had the tags on it). He said they cannot take back any merchandise or give refunds or exchanges. I was told to come back when the manager is there.

This is a $39.99 item, not that expensive but still not cheap and what kind of policy is that? Well, I thought fine, so I went back to Rochester, and the next day I went back there again during the hours the guy told me the manager would be there. When I got there a woman was at the counter and I asked to speak to the manager and she said she was the manager. I then politely explained the situation and then she flat out told me that their policy is no refunds no exchanges. I was so angry I just threw the brand new lingerie in the bag complete with new tags right behind the counter where she was standing and walked out. I am still flabbergasted that a store can get away with a policy like that. I could understand if it was an adult movie and the package was opened or the tags were off or it was stained, etc... Just totally floored me. I guess if you are the only adult store in a 50 mile radius you can get away with it. But I still feel very bothered by the whole thing.

I can't find a phone # for this place and no website as far as I know. You won't find much if you google it either but they get a lot of business being the only place around like that and near the interstate. Just thought I'd share my experience and warn others to watch out for this place of no returns.

It's a Sex Shop

AUTHOR: saraski - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, December 31, 2009

It's a sex shop, I would hope that they do not accept returns on clothing, tags on or not. In fact, they usually cut the tags off whenever I buy anything there.  If i knew they took returns, I'd never shop there again.

You're just blowing hot air.

Dear Joe,

Unfortunately, you are one of the millions of consumers who simply doesn't bother to ask the right questions or actually read any signs posted in a store or on the registers. Working in customer service, this truly is a sad habit that I see far too many people fall into. Everyone expects that they can have their way and do whatever they want, which is basically what you're trying to do here.
Pure Pleasure is one of the best Adult Shops in this region, one of the reasons they are one of the few around. Here's the thing: YOU NEED TO ASK A STORE ABOUT IT'S RETURN POLICY. You can't just assume because you kept the tags on the item that you would be able to return it. I'm sure your grandmother told you the saying about what it means to assume.
So next time, instead of trying to cover up the fact that you are, basically, a complete idiot, think before you make a purchase anywhere while assuming that the policy is what YOU believe, not what the store upholds.
I have NEVER had trouble with this store before, and it sounds like you were just mad because you didn't even think. Next time, instead of buying your wife a gift from a sex shop, maybe you should try Victoria's Secret or somewhere less...adult. I'm sure your wife will appreciate you not wanting to make her into a complete w***e.

Suspect

AUTHOR: dustmunkey84 - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, October 01, 2009

1st your original premise is flawed. No one ripped you off, no one swindled you. A swindle or a rip-off would be if you paid for something and did not get it or paid for something and got something other than what you paid for. No store is required to take any type of return, unopened or otherwise.

2nd there is obvious exaggeration in your title as to travel from the store to you hotel (by your own admission) takes 20 minutes one way. That is 40 minutes round trip. To be within your time frame means that you gave the gift to your wife, had a conversation with her determined that she did not like that and left within 19 minutes. Which is suspect. This puts in to suspect your explanation of your "polite" conversation with the store clerk.

3rd It is not the only adult store within 50 miles.

4th the others are absolutely right. Accepting a return for lingerie is likely not against the law. However I can assure you that reselling said lingerie is definitely against the law. If you bought a sex toy it is in the same boat.

5th I have been to this store and bought items from there. I was on the fence about what to buy getting advice from that very manager and she was VERY upfront about her return policy.

#5 Consumer Suggestion

Two points and a suggestion

AUTHOR: Raskolnikov - (U.S.A.)

1. There are notices posted throughout the store, as well as on the side of the cash register facing the customers as they check out, clearly written in black print on a pink background (easily readable) that due to the nature of their business all sales are final. The store is quite upfront about this and makes no attempt to hide their policy from their customers. Joe does not mention if he missed seeing these signs (one of which would have been clearly visible a few inches from him as he bought the outfit) or was somehow misled by the sales staff as to their return policy. He appears to have assumed he could return it.

2. Regardless of what the law says about returns/exchanges - would anyone want to shop at an "adult" store that took returns? Most of what they sell comes into contact with a person's bodily fluids at some point, and no matter how short a time period has passed between the sale and an attempted return, the sales staff has no way to know where the item has been or what has been done with/to it. The no-return policy seems to be a reasonable attempt by the company to protect the health of their employees and customers as well as their image as a clean and professionally-run business.

In the future, Joe can avoid this experience by asking about a store's return policy before making a purchase. True, most places have a fairly straightforward no-questions-asked return policy, but a store selling adult novelties and lingerie has a pretty good reason for not wanting the products they sell brought back into the store.

What? Do you know the law?

AUTHOR: Destructo - (U.S.A.)

It's a state law in most, that you cannot return an item from a "Sex Shop", once it's left the store. It's not only store policy, but state law in most places. Could you imagine using or wearing something from a "Sex Shop", that come to find out, may have been worn or used by someone else previously?

Come on, think about it!
