Subject: Purchased Serta Beautyrest Mattress...It has obvious Manufacturing Defects Company has numerous prior Complaints
In February 2011, I had checked several Mattress firms in Sarasota and had decided on purchaseing two beds at a Sarasota location. A good friend suggested before purchasing, that I should check the Macys Center in Bradenton, Fl, where more quality Named Brand mattresses may be available.
On 02-21-2011, I went to the Macys Center, located at on 7381 52nd Place East Bradenton, Fl . I was met by salesman Raymond M, who was extremely helpful. I said I wished to find a good quality King Size Mattress & Foundation for my Master bedroom. Raymond then suggested & demonstrated the Simmons Beautyrest as a much more superior product480 Coils vs the 240 coils Coils that are in other Mattress Brands, I therefore selected the SIMMONS BEAUTYREST and subsequently expended over $ 1,500.00 for two mattresses and related items.
I later noted that the Beautyrest was manufactured on 02-01-2011, with me purchasing it just weeks later, on 02-21-2011. Note: Beautyrest ClassicDillon PlushModel: M84047-60-7701
Within a matter of several weeks, I began to notice that it was difficult to get comfortable with this mattress. I simply assumed it was just going to take me a while to get used to the new mattress. During those initial months I noticed that the Mattress was seemingly becoming soft and appearing to sag in several areas of the bed. This has continued to be an ongoing problem, with me being able to feel the Springs pushing against various Pressure Points of the body.
I have become so uncomfortable in this bed, that many times I go to one of my guest rooms and sleep on my old King size bedwhich is over 12 years old.
Additionally, the bed interior structure is noisy, whenever you sit or ly upon the mattress, a series of creaking sounds emanate from the mattress.
I find this mattress is impossible to sleep on causing me to wake up thru out the night...The mattress obviously has a defect. I have purchased numerous beds in the past and never had an issue. I specifically purchased this Beautyrest due to its name Brand recognition, known for quality.
I contacted Macy's, the manager then forwarded my concerns to Simmons mattress Company...To no avail...The mattress Company states there is no warranty due to the price structure & discount they give to Macy's. No one had told me about this and the fact that there is no warranty.
Then I checked the internet and find that this is an on-going problem with Simmons Bedding. IN THIS MATTER, IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD MATTRESS...THE LAST PLACE TO GO WOULD BE MACYS OR THEIR SUPPLIER, THAT BEING SIMMONS MATTRESS... BEWARE....THAT BEDDING IS A RIP-OFF....AND THEY HAVE NO CUSTOMER CARE WHEN YOU COMPLAIN.
I will not shop or do business with macy's of Bradenton, Fl or SIMMONS BEAUTYREST again and suggest you research them before ever buying from such poorly run businesses.

Thanks for your reply. I am actually not a representative of Macy's, though I have sold mattresses from one of their stores in the past. My rebuttal was by no means an official reply, but reflects all current information that I know. Just figured I'd provide some helpful information for you and any others viewing this report. Even if it has been a while, one reply is better than no reply.
Mattresses are sent to clearance centers for many reasons. The mattress you ordered could have been a cancelled order, duplicate, or even a recently discontinued model, since the mattress models are changed at the beginning of each year. Their warehouses hold ordered mattresses for pickup by their delivery trucks. They generally have little room for extra stock, so they send those extras to clearance centers. A king mattress would especially be likely to be cleared out due to its size. There really is no sure way of knowing why it has been cleared either, which is part of the risk of purchasing a non-refundable clearance item.
The bottom line for any brand is generic and basic. The BeautyRest brand from Simmons tends to be well recognized due to the fact that all of them have pocketed coils and a reputation for quality. Their mattress line generally runs much higher in price than others as a result of this feature, like Serta. If there was, for example, a Serta king bed for the same price at that center, it would at least be in their middle end. This means that it may have been more supportive and more comfortable for you, although it would lack the pocketed coils and brand name recognition that BeautyRest has.
The lowest end BeautyRests have generally been a poor match for most regular sleepers in my experience. As a rule of thumb, never go by a company's brand name when the price of the item seems too good to be true, because it probably is. Simmons makes most of its money and earned its reputation from its higher end beds (1100-3000 "sale" prices for a King set). Buying brand name does not equate to buying quality.
Going back to your reply, there are mattress factories for every mattress company everywhere in the US. Most of the beds are made by either Sealy, Simmons, or Serta. There are many different lines for many stores with many different names. I'm sure that your previous beds were made by at least one of the big three companies. Generally, with new mattresses, most faults show up during the first two months.
That's why most mattress retailers have at the very least a 30 day return period. Since mattresses are a uniform product designed to suit people of all weights, shapes, sizes, and lifestyles, problems do show up about 3-7% of the time during this period. With clearance mattresses you are getting a mattress with no warranty and a "no returns" policy, so you are taking a risk of hitting that percentage. If there is a problem, all bets are off.
Either way, this is a very unfortunate situation. I hope you resolved your sleeping situation. The store definitely could have better explained the risks involved before you made the purchase. I believe the sales associate should've known better. Aside from that, I do not see any blatant deception on the part of Simmons or Macy's. This is a risk many people take when buying a clearance, floor sample, or as-is mattress. Not everyone is satisfied with the end result. And again, I am not representing anyone here, just though I'd help out with a wall of text.

There are a few issues with your Company Response...{2 years later}
...I purchased the BeautyRest on Feb 21st 2011...and you are now responding in April of 2013...over two years later...That is NOT what I would call good Customer Service.
...You then refer to this mattress being a Clearance item...Yet the mattress tags show it was Manufactured on Feb 1st 2011...just 20 days before it arrived in Florida and I purchased it...that doesn't sound like a clearance item.
...Then you say I purchased the very BOTTOM-END of your Brand...
usually sold as Guest Beds ...I find that unusual, since I purchased two beds....this one...and a 2nd bed for MY GUEST ROOM...
That 2nd bed was cheaper...and I might add, it turned out to be much more comfortable than the Beautyrest.
I think your CEO and other Management should concentrate on the huge number of complaints that are found thru-out the Internet...Other mattress companies do not have anywhere near the number of complaints or issues. And it I'm not mistraken, the mattresses are made in the same factory or town as other Brand mattress...so there appears to be a huge quality control issue. And, I might add, I have never had a mattress fail within a month or two...
I am used to a mattress lasting for a number of years...and those were not super brands, but usually the cheapest thing I could find...the first Superbrand I buy...A Beauty rest...was a huge disappointment. Your company needs to figure out why ALL the competion is so easily beating your product. I wish you well, but your company has a long ways to go. Wish you luck...but it will take a real committment...not luck...for you to produce a real quality product.

Based on the address you have provided, you have purchased the bedding set from one of Macy's Furniture Clearance Centers.
It is not at all unusual for clearance furniture and mattresses to be sold with no warranties and no returns. They are often sold "As Is". Although your mattress may have been produced recently at the time of purchase, it is important to note that February-March is usually the time when the older mattress models are taken out of circulation and replaced with new models.
Furthurmore, although you did settle for a BeautyRest bed for the "brand name", you chose to purchase a bed at their very bottom end. Given available online information, the Dillon Plush was far from a top end bed, and was at the starting end. These sorts of beds were generally sold in smaller sizes as guest beds. Generally, a bed in this price point in a king size may not provide good support or long lasting comfort. It most certainly isn't reflective of the quality of the brand. And, it was sold "as is" from a clearance center.
Mattress manufacturer warranties generally do not cover beds sold in clearance stores, which explains the information the Simmons rep told you. Clearance bed are very good deals compared to purchasing a new bed from Macy's at sale price, but the low prices do have a catch. All clearance beds are effectively sold off to clear inventory, and as a result, come with no warranties. The sales associate you worked with should have explained these policies thoroughly to you before completing the sale.
Beds sold from vanilla Macy's bedding departments or furniture galleries come with at least a 60 day return period, as well as warranty coverage from the manufacturer. (Generally 10 years for Simmons BeautyRest Classic).
