INDUSTRY NEWS Franck Muller Russian Movement Admission! Dec 19, 2003 - 02:18 PM

Notwitstanding the fact that both Mr. Franck Muller and Vartan Sirmakes (co-owners of Franck Muller Watchland FM, Pierre Kunz, ECW) are suing each other in court for breach of trust, now the saga of the Russian movements has turned a new page.

After the Geneva newspaper Le Temps reported that FM Watchland ordered thousands of Russian made movements, Vartan Sirmakes denied it and sued the newspaper for libel.

Now, according to the research done by another Swiss newspaper, Le Matin, documents have been unearthed that show that indeed Mr. Sirmakes purchased from Poljot, 1,500 movements. A contract dated 1994 and signed by Mr. Sirmakes' other company, Technowatch, shows the purchase order to Poljot for the movements states that these will be deprived of any engraving marks that will identify them as Poljot!

Vartan Sirmakes denies vigorously that these movements ended up in Franck Muller cases, and gives an other explanation for their use: "Yes, it sometimes happens that we order Russian, Japanese or Chinese movements. But we used them for research, to know what the competitors are making. There is nothing but Swiss movements in the watches of the Franck Muller group".

Watch specialists find it astonishing that 1,500 movements were purchased simply to study them!

As usual, I will keep you posted on developments of this ongoing saga.

Thanks.

Jorge.

Montres Allison site and the pictures you can see there, including the web camera ones, are just pathetic.

Compare it with the fine watch companies sites and you will see what I mean.

Nowhere in MA's site can you see a factory where they can make mechanical movements. But as you perfectly know, those watches are bought in China with MA logos on cases, crowns and straps and buckles. I could do the same and begin Montres Nogueira saga if I wanted.

It has been said that Franck Muller's watches came with russian Poljot movements lately. And they charge more than $20,000 in average for each one. But what about Montres Allison srp of $20.000 for that Slaathaug that's a clone of a Million Smart chinese made watch?
OK, you don't like to ear the truth.
Do you, Terry?

#2 Consumer Suggestion

You are Franck Muller or an employee of his aren't you?

Regarding Rui's comments........

Montres Allison uses full disclosure on its website and has a webcam so you can see the services being performed and pictures of their facilities.

If you talk to them or read articles written about them you will see that they have a niche in that they are proud and promote themselves as using components from all over the world including Asian countries. What could be wrong with that? They are a melting pot of horological philosophies and components. If you look on many of their website pages they tell you this. Why do you insist on acting like they've done something wrong? It seems like you must be a competitor of theirs or something.

I would be more worried about the Franck Muller and Swiss watch industry scandals than a company who has proven time and again that they are above board.

You are Franck Muller or an employee of his aren't you?

What about chinese made Montres Allison?

OK, Franck Muller is probably a crook... But what about Terry Allison selling cheap chinese made watches making us believe he's selling fine in house made watches?

That brand - Montres Allison - is nothing more than junk. Fortunately it appears they are not selling a lot anymore.
