Seven day funship cruise ends with unscrupulous Carnival baggage handlers riffling through passengers carefully selected shopping treasures. Under the guise of helping speed up US Customs check for debarking off ship, ship personnel instructed all passengers to leave their luggage in the hall to be carried to cargo area where U.S. Customs will check it in the early a.m.

A speedy departure off ship did not happen, many passengers waiting in stairways and lounge areas for hours. Unknown to us, while we slept, our personal belongings had already been stolen. My Electronics, cologne, jewelry, even the New Mexican boots that were supposed to adorn my feet. My girlfriends jewelry, perfume even the souvenirs for the kids. So much stuff could not go unnoticed, where did they hide it?

I felt so violated, I really was in shock that an atmosphere could exist where the thieves felt so comfortable taking that much stuff without fear of reprisal. A compound theft of this magnitude could not be so rare or random, that CARNIVAL did not have prior knowledge of previous occurrences. I will say they did give us warnings of dangers and rip-offs in foreign ports. But not to address their own issues that happen right here in an American port, is nothing short of negligence and or complicity.

After complaining to corporate headquarters we were told that if we had purchase the cruise cancellation insurance, we would have been covered. Cancellation insurance was explained to us just like it sounds (if we canceled at the last minute, we could still get our money back). Thats the way the travel agent explained it to us, and that is the way we understood it. We knew, that we knew, we were going - so we didn't need it. Now cancellation insurance is theft insurance. Yea Right. As a consolation prize for us being ripped off for at least a thousand plus dollars, they offered us $100 credits each for a future cruise. We Don't Think So!!!

Just because someone calls you out on a mistake you made, and you accuse me of being a phony? I am a victim also. I didn't enjoy my cruise that much and have made a complaint on another cruise issue. I haven't posted but on this one and another one dealing with tipping, so I personally have no idea what your talking about.

I could trade insults with Kristi until the cows come home. But I think that the insults and rhetoric will only detract from what most of use are here for, to air our grievances. I think it is really suspect when certain first names are peppered through this forum, playing down others plight. I think the editor should do a better job of screening loiterers who only frequent this forum to de-emphasize the injustices and squash the resolve of use who have been victimized.

But for your information... I was not raised in Alabama, how ignorant on your part to assume people grow-up and live in one place all their lives. Not many do, and I am one who didn't.
You said nothing about them checking your bags, as in they were going to go through them.

I was going on my experience since you wrote nothing like that. We can't read your mind and how ignorant for you to assume we can. My experience was, the packet I received from my travel agent said to use locks and carnival's information along with it said to use locks. They never once said anything about customs searching your bags. So don't be so rude in your comments when you made the mistake.

how come? does homeland security know about this?

the airlines want to know if your bags have been out of your possession, or if anyone has asked you to carry something for them, but a cruise ship w/ appox. 1700 people(i read that on another post), having gone through international ports of call, wants you to leave your bags, all your personal belongings in the hallway overnight-unlocked. does homeland security know about this?

In the post 9/11 world and Home Land Security we have come to expect certain infringements of our privacy. Apparently the Alabama School systems aren't that good because either I didn't explain well or Kristi can't read. They told the passengers to leave their bags in the hallway for the purpose of going through them, but insured us that a representative from Customs as well as a rep. from Carnival would be present at all times. A lock would have prevented what we were told was a necessary search. I did not loose all my valuables I did have an electronics bag. Can you believe a Bozo named Pickle has to gall to call me a clown? I really hope the bullies kicked his butt as a kid, he is an idiot!!

Well Paul, In his defense on the luggage outside part

You have to leave your luggage outside, they tell you too. But they also tell you to put a lock on your luggage. They tell you about the lock before even getting on the boat. Because you have to give your luggage to these guys at the port, I mean what happens to them in that process?

But I agree it could have been anybody, like the first guy said, "so much stuff could not go unnoticed, where did they hide it" well if it wasn't those guys, then it would have been easy to get it and put it in another suit case (maybe they had a lock). My thought now is that it might have been another passenger. That last night some of the people get really drunk.

But I still say "LOCK"..

Why on earth would anyone leave their luggage, containing "electronics" and various pricy "treasures," sitting outside their room door all night, unattended while they sleep? Did this person not realize that they were NOT the only people on board this ship, and that the many many other travelers could help themselves to this luggage at any time? Why did this person not have the common sense to put all of his prized possessions in a safe place inside the room, and/or refuse to leave his luggage sitting outside in the hallway in the first place!! It does not sound like Carnival can be blamed for this clown's adamant lack of responsibility and common sense.

Uh..heard of using lock's

Did you not use a lock on your luggage? I went on a cruise, not saying I don't have anything bad to say, but one thing I know is I'm smart enough to use a lock.
