My wife entered a drawing at the Rockaway Townsquare mall to win a new car, 5 days later we received a call from a company saying that she had won a free 3 night stay at any Marriot hotel of her chosing and a $1000.00 internet shopping spree and that she still had a chance at the car.
All we had to do was claim it at Sundance vacation offices and listen to a sales pitch. We were leery we're aware that nothing is free!
We went to their offices listened to a 20 minute presentation, they showed a few pictures of some resorts (they did not say these were the destinations in their plan)then they took us to a back office for the high pressure pitch.
The cost is $15,000.00 for 30 vactions at any of their sites (still no information on where, or if these actual sites in their catalogue are in fact the real destinations) they start discounting the price down to $11,000.00 but we had to pay then and there, or finance with a direct withdrawl from our account at a high interest rate(No Way!).
Still no proof of the vacation destinations. I had asked several times and was told the accomodations were what you would expect at these type of resorts(rather vague, still had no information on the type of resorts although, they did have a 3 ring binder with pictures of unknown resorts). When asked are these the destinations I got no direct answer. They would not let us leave, they took us to 4 different people then the last person tried one last time to seperate us for our money. I asked to have them give me all the information and I would check it out then get back to them. I was told by their head sales person we don't do that this is such a great deal we need the money tonight! We told them NO!
As it turns out the free 3 night stay is at selected hotels only, no holiday stays and a lot of black out dates. The free internet shopping spree was for a web site called KEShoppingSpree.com mostly dollar store garbage!!! Oh! Yes we didn't win the car either!
We are not angry that we didn't win a car, actually my wife had forgotten that she had entered a contest. But, what is most unscrupulous is Sundance's practice of saying that you have won something only to find out that it is all a ruse to get you to part with your hard-earned cash!!! They were rude and deceitful, this does make us angry!!!
Even the lottery commision will pay up on an old lottery ticket. The moral of this story is play the lottery at least they pay up!

Sundance Vacations The Real Facts

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 11, 2008

Sundance Vacations. Here are the facts!

There are various packages but initially Sundance offers you 30 vacations (basically one per year for 30 years) for $15,000, $12,000 if you purchase that day only. Financing is available at approximately a 16.7% interest rate. Although financing is for 84 months (7 years) the Sundance contract is a 30-year commitment. Sundance Vacations spiel is that 30 weekly vacations, at $12,000, is equal to $400 per vacation, but let's do the math:

Initial down payment of $2,400. = $2,400
$195 per month for 84 months.
(Financing the $9,600 balance) = $16,380
$339 annual membership fee x 30 years. = $10,170
$99.00 per week reservation fee x 30 weeks = $2,970
$30.00 per night peak travel time upgrade.
$30.00 per night x 7 nights = $210 per week.
(39 of the 52 yearly weeks are peak travel time.)
$210 per week peak travel time x 30 weeks = $6,300

That's a total of $38,220 for 30 vacations or $1,274 per week and they are one bedroom accommodations because two bedrooms require another $210.00 per week upgrade. That would then equal $1,484 per week and that does not include meals, air fare, transfers to and from the airport, local taxes, on-site amenities, maid service, gratuities, etc.

All of the above ancillary fees are detailed in the Sundance Vacations contract. The minimum $1,274 per week is more than 3 times the $400.00 per week that Sundance suggests. In addition, with the exception of the initial purchase price, all the ancillary fees (yearly maintenance fees, weekly reservation fees, peak travel time upgrades, local taxes, etc.) are subject to increase as detailed in the Sundance Vacations contract. Also in the contract are very specific and burdensome requirements for booking vacations, quoting from that contract:

You may assist our Vacation Fulfillment/Reservations department by being as flexible as possible with your desired vacation area and dates. Provide a total of 3 areas and/or 3 dates: The 3 vacation areas may have the same travel dates, or the 3 travel dates may all be for the same desired vacation area. Reservation Requests must be received at least 90 days in advance for peak season requests and 180 days in advance for holiday or special event times. Summer travel is defined as the dates between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Almost all dates qualify as peak travel so requests are typically 90 to 180 days in advance.

$1,274 to $1,484 per vacation week (accommodations only) 90 to 180 days advanced written request with no guarantee that you'll get the vacation time and place that you choose because all requests are based on availability as detailed in the Sundance Vacations contract. Is that a good deal? You be the judge.

(TAN) or Travel Advantage Network is a good value, from a customer of appx. 20 years

AUTHOR: Wayne - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 13, 2008

We have been a members of "TAN", Travel Advantage Network, for about 20 years now. We have been all over the USA, inc. Hawaii several times, and have been very pleased with the condos and the service. The one time we were unhappy about a room we contacted them and they moved us to another room with no problems. We use the excess weeks more than the weeks that we purchased. The excess weeks are listed each Friday and cost only $198.00 for a week in a condo that would usually cost that per night. Several friends and family have also used TAN thru my membership and have also been happy. When we are at the time shares, we talk to other people that are members of TAN, and they are also happy about theirs membership. I have also talked to people that have paid thousands for their membership in that condo, plus hundreds each year for maintenance. When I tell them I am only paying $198.00 for the week in the same condo with TAN they wish they had heard about TAN before they bought their membership in the condo.

This works, at least sometimes

I've also heard about this company before. They work with the NJ Nets basketball team and are at games having people fill out these forms. I filled one out last year, but when they called I didn't feel like going because the reward wasn't that great.

However, my brother went to a pitch for the first time like 2 months ago. He was interested only in the reward, which was 2 nights stay PLUS airfare to one of three hotels. He didn't believe it, but went anyway since what's an hour of your time right? Well, he did get the free airfare and 2 night stay at the hotel in Reno, NV. Plus, they gave him a seriously discounted rate on two more nights. They even gave him a $15 voucher for gas for going to the presentation.

My brother and I went to a Nets game last weekend and sure enough, there they were. We immediately filled out the papers and I just got a call from them this morning. My wife and I are going this Thursday. I'll see if they come through for us like they did my brother.

As for what they are actually selling, I have no idea. My brother didn't even care, and neither do I. It could be great, it could be pure garbage. But if you can waste an hour of your time and keep saying no, then you stand to get a seriously nice reward just for going.

My wife and I recently attended a Sundance Vacations presentation, in King Of Prussia, PA. Having attended 'Time-Share' presentations in the past, we were skeptical. We were told the presentation would last no more than 1 hour.

Our sales person could not have been more polite. After about 30 minutes she was finished with her presentation. We told her we were not buying. She then asked if her supervisor could talk to us. Our thoughts were "here we go". The supervisor also turned out to be polite.

After determining why we were not buying, he came up with some alterations on the original plan to make it a better fit for us. We still said "No". He thanked us for our time, told our sales person to see we got our premium for attending and he excused himself. Our sales lady asked if she could do anything else for us. We asked her to allow us some time to talk privately, which she was gladly did. When we finished, I called her be back to the table and announced we had decided and we'd be leaving. She presented our premium, we shook hands, she thanked us for our time and saw us to the door. It did, in fact, take an hour of our time, however the hour was pleasant and most of all, we had been treated with respect.

As we were leaving we noticed most of the other couples had already finished and were gone. We saw no signs of HIGH PRESSURE going on with anyone.

This experience may or may not be the way Sundance Vacations treats all their clients, but for one hour on one day, it's how they treated us.

TAN Member

AUTHOR: Bob - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 03, 2007

We've (my wife and I) have been a TAN Member since 2003. we actually got a pretty good deal. 22 weeks/$6900 (originally they wanted to sell 20 weeks for like $12K. no way). But the salesperson was nice and worked us out a nice deal.

We've used it twice so far and enjoyed both vacation spots (and always got our 1st choice week). I figured if it takes 30 years (give or take) to use the remainding 20 weeks, the average cost per vacation (including the original cost and yearly membership fee and the other "service" charges involved but excluding travel costs. car, plane, etc.) would be around $750 per vacation week. not a bad deal. In the past (before TAN), my average vacation cost for my wife and I was around $1000 - $1200/week, depending where we went. so if you use the plan correctly, it does work.

The only "negative" is that no pets are allowed at any of the resorts. maybe that will change in the future.

I'm confused

AUTHOR: Becca - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 10, 2007

I actually have a few comments. Number one for the 18 year old that bought a vacation, I'm still trying to figure out how you got that far. In order to even be able to use the vacations we give away you have to be 21 and are informed of this in the origional phone call. Now I'm not sure if you lied to us on the phone and found a way around being 18 or what, but you can't fault the salesman for selling you something that as far as he knows, you are old enough to use. If you lied about your age, then it is on you, next time be truthful from the get go.

Karen, I am also a bit confused here as well. you are angry with the salesman for only offering you the package you agreed to buy Isn't that what a salesman is supposed to do? Think of it in terms of car sales. You walk onto the lot and tell the salesman you want to buy a ford mustang. Right away he is going to lead you to the most expensive mustang they have on the lot. If he can get you to purchase the more expensive one, he isn't going to then offer you a cheaper one LOL. Be realistic, the salespeople are out to make money, this is their livelihood same as every other business on the planet. Just because you jumped at the first offer it doesn't make a company a scam, it makes you an easy sell. If you had held out for a bit you would have had the chance to purchase cheaper packages. Interesting that it sounded good to you until you found out someone got something you didn't. Next time be a wiser shopper. You are told on the phone no purchase necessary, all you had to do was time the 60minutes by your watch, get up and walk out and you would have had trip in hand. The sales tactics aren't deceptive, they are normal for this type of sales. Never once were you told you HAD to buy something. You chose to and I'm sorry you don't want to be accountable for that decision but unfortunately you are, as is everyone else who filed a complaint because they bought something they ended up not wanting.

My advice to anyone is always read the fine print before you sign anything, and learn to say no if you aren't really interested. Most of the complaints I've seen on here are ridiculous. it's not our company's fault you bought something, it is yours.

They rely on pressure sales so I would recommend
not even going to their offices.

Belive this!!!

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 31, 2007

I am reading all the Travel advantage is a rip off/Travel advantage is legit. Well let me let you all in on a secret
1. It is a legitimate Business
2. It rips people off

I brought for 12,000 30 vacations call me stupid, crazy or what ever I thought it was a good thing. Vacations, Mexico, Hawaii, NJ Shore Maine etc, now ask me how many have I been on since I brought in to this bull crap 3 years ago, (ZERO) when you call to book it is always some story, or better yet I need a studio which sleeps my family of 4 husband myself and 2 children well sorry we only have 2 bedroom units available and that will cost you an extra 500.00 for the week. And if you travel peak season it is 30.00 dollars per day and the room is booked for 7 days even if you don't want to stay (you don't have to) but you still will pay the 30.00 day and oh like any other vacation club you will take the insurance for 50.00 because if you cancel you lose that 210.00 for the week.

Let's not forget some of these places have a mandatory 39-100 per day eating charge and 5-10 dollar per day beach chair and towel charge. All of which is legitimate but is NOT TOLD TO YOU AT THESE LITTLE MEETINGS TO LURE YOU IN! This is the problem so for the people that say it is legitimate these people are scamming people but legally and they know what they are doing is deceptive! I am out of 12,000 this is a hard lesson to swallow and I am doing that very well. If it is so honest people would have been told all these little quirks up front! Hopefully someone will read this and stay away from TAN-SUNDANCE VACATIONS! Enjoy for those who love them so dearly!

Better than I expected

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 06, 2007

Like, seemingly, everyone else I entered a drawing to win a car. A few weeks later I received a phone call about the flight and hotel offer.
I read this post before going the presentation and was very much dreading that hour of my life. But I have to say it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. The people were all friendly and not pushy at all. They simply presented us with an offer no high pressure, brow beating. We (seriously) considered it, said "no thanks, not at this time". They said "ok, thanks for coming in" and handed us the paper work for our flight and hotel.
I can't speak about the other offices, but the staff in the Harrisburg, PA office was professional and courteous.

POSTED: Saturday, December 16, 2006

My husband and I are members. We were hit with a hard sell, but folks - if you're called in to hear a sales pitch, IT WILL BE A HARD SELL. Only go if you're interested in the product, or good at resisting! This is COMMON in the travel real estate market. If you get that 2 night/3day stay deal...it's cuz you've EARNED it one way or the other!

TAN properties are lovely & in the best locations. Just beware that if you go during peak season your booking fees are higher .. and every time you want to go where anything's going on, figure it's peak season.

All Good So Far

AUTHOR: Ben - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 10, 2006

My girlfriend and I went through all of the sales pitches and whatnot, too; read more about it here: (( link redacted by ROR))

Yes, it was a little annoying at first having to cut through the crap to get at what we really wanted and needed to know. The people were nice enough, and we've had absolutely nothing but good things to say about them since. Their reservation request people have been extremely nice and accommodating, and although we haven't actually used their physical facilities yet, nothing in our experience has led us to believe that it won't live up to our expectations.

Don't judge a company based solely on their sales tactics. That's the only contact they ever will have with you, so they're trying to make the most of it.

Pay Attention

AUTHOR: Mary - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 07, 2006

I am an employee at one of the companies that makes the "infamous" phones call to the people who enter the contests to win the cash/car givaways. On your entry form it says you will be called by our representing company. Read the fine print. When we call you, we specifically say you "you have been chosen to recieve this 3 day/2 night stay" We are not allowed to say you've won! Because you haven't. You are given this vacation in exchange for listening to our sales pitch.

You are right, it may be high pressure from some of the sales reps, but that's just because they are trying to make themselves a nice paycheck to take home to thier family. If you aren't interested in traveling, just say so. If you aren't interested in buying, say so. As long as you stay for the hour, you can go to the front desk, request your vacation/shopping spree vouchers, and go. No one is going to block the doorway. You promised us an hour, we promised you a vacation. It's that simple. Just remember the little people, trying to make a buck.

I am a single mom of two, and this company allows me to make full time pay, with part time hours. When my appointments show up & STAY for the hour, I only get $8. That's not much, considering what you'll get out of it. If you aren't sure about the hotels you are staying at, check it out before you go.

Sundance & it's sister companies THRIVE off the BBB. The customer is always right is the policy that got them the 2005 Torch Award last year.

If you are called, ask the questions before you go. Don't make any committment to buying $12,000 vacation packages ( like the 18 year old girl )if you don't have the money to spend. Actually, you have to be 21 to make an appointment. So someone wasn't doing their job correctly. I hope this shed some light on the negativity that has been reflected on my employer. The world is trying to rip us all off. The government does it everyday. No one has filed a rip off report about them, HAVE THEY?

Tan Vacations is NOT a scam!!!

AUTHOR: Kim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 03, 2006

I also purchased Tan Vacation packages (I bought 10). I was told all of my options up front. I heard about this through a drawing (I put my name in a box at one of the wedding expos).

I did get the "free" 3 day 2 night via Sundance and I chose Vegas. The hotel was WAAAY off the strip, in fact it was in old Vegas and it wasn't the best hotel. I had no problems checking in and the staff was nice, rooms...eh!

Since, I've used 1 of my weeks purchased via Tan Vacations I have nothing but RAVES! I stayed at the Pointe Resort (Tapatio Cliffs) in Phoenix and one word....PHENOMENAL! The condo was clean, there were no sales-pitches or telemarketers calling our condo. LOVED IT and I'm glad I made my purchase.

TAN is Okay

AUTHOR: Diane - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 01, 2006

My parents bought into the Travel Advantage Network several years ago. We were skeptical at first. They purchased 10 vacations. One of the nice things about the TAN vacations is that anyone in the family can use them. My siblings and myself have gone on vacations to Hawaii, Phoenix, Myrtle Beach, Daytona Beach and Tortola. All at very reasonable rates. We paid $400 for a week in July at the oceanfront Myrtle Beach resort.

We have never had a problem with them.

Sundance Vacations

POSTED: Tuesday, June 13, 2006

I too brought into Tan I have not used it yet however my husband and I wish we could get out of it. Right now we can only use the access inventory, however perhaps next year I will write again to let everyone know if it is what it say it is! I just read the article from Deanna! We brought 32 vacations 12,000 no one told us that you could purchase a certain amount you do feel trapped. I would have loved to buy 10! They make it sound so good but once you get home and you read everything the book for the all inclusive the extras you might as well book each year out of pocket it adds up to the same thing! We left a huge chunk down so if i had to do it over I would NOT do again! and everyone is right the gifts are junk nothing but a d.. trap!

Don't waste your time

AUTHOR: K - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 10, 2006

About a year ago, I also entered to win one of the cars (I think it was in the Oxford Valley Mall) and got the infamous phone call a few days later. Everything sounded so inticing, so I went. I LOVE to travel & after watching their little videos I was drooling all over myself. I wouldn't go as far to say that the sales tactics were high pressure, but what this company does is called "exploitation." I was 18 when I went to this meeting. I signed up for one of their packages for $180/mo & $100 sign up fee. It wasn't until FOUR months later that I figured out that you had to be 23 to book vacations!!!!!!!!!!!

I called sundance & went through the ringer with them. I am in customer service, so I tried not to be irrational or rude to the cs rep, but after they heard I wanted OUT of this scam, their attitude TOTALLY changed! Finally after about 4 weeks of talking to the "head honcho" she agreed to refund all of the money I had paid because I had made it very clear to her that they had taken advantage of me, hiding the fact that I wouldn't be able to use these "vacations" for FIVE more years, but I was good enough at 18 for them to take my money.

Moral of the Story ;

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

Company is legit

AUTHOR: Deanna - (U.S.A.)

Sure their way of getting people to come in is not the best, but have any of you actually bought and used their vacations? My parents have been using them for years. The reason they don't tell you specific locations is because they're always trading real estate. Every time I went with my parents the condos were always clean, up to standards, and often times there was an extra bedroom. I recently purchased a package myself and it came with a list of cities and states. You can also choose your vacation by categories like golfing, sailing, family fun, etc.

Their sales force is not the greatest, but if they had professionals then it would be a travel agency and you'd be paying retail which would defeat the purpose of wholesale vacations. They make commission on packages for $6k and up. You can purchase just 8 vacations for a very reasonable price (around $3k) and spread the payments interest free over 3 years with a monthly credit card payment. Their concept is great, they were published in many business journals, and totally legit.

Sundance Vacations, Hasbrouck Heights NJ hard sell tactics

AUTHOR: Bob - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 15, 2005

I also had dealings with Sundance Vacations in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ and because of this website am better informed today and avoided this scam.

Several months back, my wife entered a drawing at a trade show and she soon received a call the "Travel company" telling her she won a free stay at the Marriot Hotel of her choosing and $1000 internet shopping spree.

She made an appointment to go, but they insisted that I also had to go with her. Since their location was close by, we booked a date. Fortunately, we didn't show up due to our own scheduling conflicts.

They have since called my wife 5 times in the last three months trying to reschedule this appointment. Most times we were busy. The last call was this week and we were told the end of the week was the final date for the "Special Offer" and we won't have a chance like this again.

My wife checked our schedules and confirmed an appointment for the end of this week.

I had to focus on the more as I was going to have to spend an hour of my day dealing with these persistant people. I grew leery as I quizzed my wife on what was being offered and what we had to do to qualify - Nothing is for free!. We had to sit through a 1 hour presentation about vacations and then we could collect our prizes.

I suspected everyone who entered had "won" - Won a chance to let these scam artists take their money.

The internet shopping spree also made me more apprehensive and their office location is near our home, so I knew this building often had vacant offices and a few fly by night business had come and gone from this office complex.

I started researching the company and like another report on this site, found they had no website. This was very odd especially for the smallest travel companies these days. Then I tried to do a yellow page search of travel agents in the area, nothing came up. My suspicion grew more.

A more thorough Google search of name and city popped up several complaint threads on other sites but when I came across your site it confirm my doubts.

Thank you for this site and preventing this fraud to take place!!!

I only wish someone would put this out of business before this happens again.

Shady Company my shopping spree was a joke

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 01, 2005

I also entered to win this "CAR". I came in to redeem my shopping spree which was a joke. The shipping and handling of everything I ordered was more than the products were worth. Not only that, they screwed up my order and I ended up paying out of pocket for their screw up. I tried cancelling my membership with Sundance and the wouldn't do anything for me. What they don't tell you is that when you sign up with them, it's a law binding agreement. There was also something else that really disturbed me; If a member becomes physically hadicapped and unable to use the vacations, they're still liable to make the payments on the 11,000 dollar vacation package they can't even use anymore. These people have no heart, no class, and absolutely no customer service. All they care about is money. This company has so many shady business ethics. Do Not Use Their Services!!!!!
