NASE is the most corrupt, evil, dishonest organization that has ever existed since the Third Reich.

On the surface, it sounds like a great deal. If your self-employeed, they pretend to be an organization to help you get quality health insurance and member benefits.

The so called "member benefits" are no more than coupons for rental cars, and a few dollars off when you go to Disneyland. Big freaking deal.

The health insurance the offer is from MEGA. The lame name should have tipped me off immediately, but I was suckered in to it. The health insurance is expensive. We were paying $460 a month, and we never got a single thing paid for. The salesman that comes to your house to sell you the insurance are amazing liars. Obviously coached to lie looking back on my meeting with them. They promised that Pregnancy would be covered, but when my wife became pregnant, did they pay? Not a chance. Now I've got $40,000 in debt.

Carlos...if you are replacing $5100 family deductible H.S.A. major medical plans with premiere PPO MEGA policies that cost more and have higher deductibles...you have no idea what you are selling, and I feel sorry for you...put that same illustration in writing and send it to Troy McQuage and see if he puts his stamp of approval that this something you should be doing...I promise he wouldn't dare...(If he does you will have something to take with you to court)You are selling a "limited hospital surgical policy" as it says in writing on the front of the brochure...the usual and customary that you are so passionate about doesn't really matter when if you read further it says UC of "covered expenses" there are an awful lot of expenses that are not"covered" or are scheduled(which is much worse than UC) also that premiere PPO is "per period of confinement" not per year...you really did a massive disservice to that family...one that if they were ever to have a big claim could be considered criminal...GET YOUR INFORMATION FROM AN UNBIASED THIRD PARTY...your state insurance commissioners office, or the NAIC not your dumb-a*s manager that will be laughing counting your commissions while you sit in jail...Man I hope you are hearing me!!! You will only be proud to be a MEGA agent until you learn the truth, I hope you do before you hurt too many people including yourself!!

I too am a former agent, and the previous post from the ex-agent in Washington is right on the money...Please young "newbie" agents...don't get caught up in this. This policy is crap...your managers are lying to you. There is a reason why everyone in your office has two years or less time with the company, there is a reason why your division manager is constantly hiring new blood...or should I say new pigeons, there is a reason why if you type Fortis, AMS, Companion, Principal, Golden rule, into this web-site you find ZERO complaints.

I promise you that if you do not do your homework, and you go out there and regirgitate the crap your managers feed you, you will be misleading your clients into certain bankruptcy...and when they complain to the insurance commissioner about you, the company will not be there...they will be pointing the finger at you as well. Its all a matter of time...everyone eventually gets sick...hopefully for your sake and your client's... they will figure out what it is before they have to use it for something significant and move to a real carrier. I would be willing to bet your division manager, and most of the districts (unless they are new)aren't out there selling...there's a reason for that too!

Its almost funny to watch current agents come in here and try to defend this stuff...All of us want to believe in what we are doing, but sometimes in life we make bad decisions..PLEASE take this opportunity to to re-examine the decision you made with UGA, and if you decide to become an independent (the only true way to do right by your clients)Get your clients out of that company before it is too late. The debt you have hanging over your head rolls up to your manager...he writes your checks doesn't he??? If you leave...the company will start trying to collect your unearned advances and any REAP LOANS for the past year...beacuse many customers DO figure it out early and quit the plan sometimes the debt you owe the company is a pretty large number...especially if you were a good producer. Ignore the company's attempts to collect that money...you never recieved checks from the company so you don't owe them anything...your manager owns your account after you quit, and he is the one that taught you to misrepresent that is your ticket out of that debt. I only offer this because I know a lot of you are not sleeping well at night torn between doing what is right and facing financial hardship yourselves, so you try to convince yourself your manager is telling the truth because its the only way you can live with yourself, and you don't want to face having to pay back those loans...

The sooner you figure it out the better...the longer you toil the bigger hole you dig. If you don't heed the warnings...you are in for a very unpleasant ride. Nothing worse than having a client or multiple clients facing financial ruin because you sold them a policy (thinking you were helping them) and did it not cover them, and when you go back to your manager and ask why the company only paid $1000 per treatment of chemo -therapy when the provider charged $10,000 and the insurance commissioner comes knocking asking you the same question...that awesome mentor of a manager is not going to support you...it will be an immediate 180, and he'll deny ever saying any of those things you have told people are so good about that policy...PROMISE!

I am a former record setting Multi-Million dollar producer for Nase/Mega in the Port Orchard, WA and surrounding areas. Unfortunately the popular trend among many now is to blame the client or blame the agents for the problems with the so-called insurance sold by MEGA.

The problem is the plans are junk, and the fantasy about tailoring the plan to your needs is a fairy tale,you can get far more for FAR less elsewhere.

I am very interested in bringing to light what policy you have.

There is only two choices, the "ILLEGAL" filled with holes Custom Care Choice policy as determined by WA depatment of insurance which was removed only after a cease and desist was given to MEGA on 3/8/05.Or the new Major Medical policy with the $20,000 MAX OOP AFTER your deductible of $2,000 to $10,000.

You must have had the old policy because maternity is mandated(according to state law) in the Major Medical policy.

You also state that your priority was in case something big happened, and that you should do your math first.

What room and board did the agent put you down as having? and how does that compare to the actual costs even after the Beechstreet/ Firstchoice discount?My district manager sold a 300 2x 3x Room and Board plan to a man in Aberdeen,WA. He had a hospital stay, needless to say the client got smoked when the $1500/day Room charges came in along with the Miscellaneous coverage running out at $12,000.
On your plan what is the CORRIDOR DEDUCTIBLE after the base plan limits run out and before the accumulated covered expense rider kicks in at $100,000 in covered expenses?

(To those not familiar with WA Mega policies the ACE rider was automatically built in all plans as contrary to most of the other states)
Next the maternity rider was removed from the brochures in 2002 and we were not allowed to sell it whatsoever. When did you purchase your policy?

Covered accidents 100% since when?
There was an accident rider with a zero deductible and two limit choices a $600.00 max or a $1200.00 max.

How about an accident that the ER charges $8000.00 to fix you up.Not quite 100% more like 15%.Hope you dont need any physical therapy, only covered if you have the(optional) outpatient testing and therapy rider and you were confined to a hospital or outpatient surgery facility. If they fix you in the ER, sorry no physical therapy.

Prescription discount even before deductible is met?

All medical plans that i have ever seen give the contracted or discounted rate even when you are paying off your deductible.
RX limit Mega- $1000/Year
RX limit Time/Fortis $8,000,000.

The Chemotherapy Rider zero deductible then pays 100 % great right. WRONG Up to $1000/day with a lifetime max of $100,000. I was trained that chemo ran $600.00 to $800.00 per day and no one could even survive $100,000 worth of chemo and thats what i regirgitated for years until I woke up and got out. Since then I have yet to find chemo for less than $3000.00/day and even certain kinds charge over $15,000.00+++/day.
However, I must say that in WA there were and are few choices to go with, and I am really not trying to attack a customer or former customer, I just want to show how the brainwashing of agents leads to the brainwashing of clients. But I guarantee you, when you get burnt, the brainwashing goes away quick.The real problem lies with the plans themselves, they need to be gathered up burnt and banned.Which is what happened in WA. Now Mega sells a Major Medical with a $22,000.00 to $30,000.00 MAX OOP and is still more expensive than the competition.
However, Mega is far more nasty in the other states, I also sold in California. Mega's stripped out junk health choice plans are far more expensive than a quality major medical from a multitude of competitors.People are getting hoodwinked left and right.The insurance commissioners in every state that Mega is in need to do what WA did to the junk(BALONEY)policies. Make MEGA sell true MAJOR MEDICAL.
If there are any Mega/Nase agents out there please write me back I am interested in what you truly think, I was in your shoes too.

My husband and I were self-employed for about a year. We purchased exactly the coverages we wanted to pay for through NASE/MEGA. Our agent was very knowledgeable, helpful and UPFRONT about everything.

We did not purchase maternity coverage because I choose not to have children. Duh. We were totally aware of the limits and what was and was not covered. We just needed SOME coverage that we could actually afford, in case of something big happening. One great thing was that they covered accidents 100%! I even got my prescriptions at a discount -- though I'm not sure why, I hadn't yet met the deductible.

We paid about $370/mo for both of us. If you think that's expensive, you are woefully ignorant of the cost of health insurance. For a PPO plan that would cover just about everything, you'd be paying well over $650/mo for two adults!
Probably even MORE by now...

READ what you are buying and understand your policy. Shop and compare before buying. Do the math first, as I did. Then maybe you will understand what you are getting for the price.

In response to Blains long list of unpaid claims, let me respond.

First, I empathize with your situation. You've had a terrible plight, it would seem, with the big C, and my heart goes out to you. Unpaid medical bills and financial hardship can only make this time more difficult. However, let me just say that simplay making a long list of amounts owed and amounts paid proves NOTHING. You signed up for the plan, were given the entire time of the underwriting process, plus the 10 day free look to understand your policy. You have to understand what you're buying. If the plan you agreed to buy didn't cover the circumstances that occured, well then, you really have no one to blame but yourself combined with bad luck.

If you would list the policy that you bought, including which riders and which deductibles and copays that YOU chose, then I could tell you if you had a gripe. But simply giving a list of unpaid numbers says nothing. They wouldn't pay for something that wasn't covered? Surprise, surprise. Believe it or not, insurance companies are in the business of making money, they aren't constructed to be social protectors. Take responsibility for what YOU bought and what YOU didn't buy.

To the employee's, x-employee's and people looking to buy insurance

First of all I don't sell insurance, but I have been licensed and have continued to hold my license.

Second of all Joe and Carlos while you were trying to sell everyone on how great MEGA and NASE is and gave us such a great example paying more for your buck, and that you give all your details to your customers. I'm willing to bet you didn't mention to that customer that even though they may pay more on the initial accident, there deductable is a 1 time charge unlike MEGA. Probably with the lower monthly premium and the lower deductible would of paid less then paying for MEGA. But you know what that's sales as long as it's not regulated and the customer's are willing to sign documents that they don't carefully read.

After going over 1,000's of documents regarding multiple insurance companies trying to find the best one that fit my needs, going over the complaints filed against health insurance companies. Your company sticks out, and it seems almost all the complaints say report that individual agent.. Do they teach that in training? But its not just the agents fault, or even the trainers who filled your heads its the governments for them not making insurance companies boldy disclaim their information.

You can almost turn anything half-a*s into something looking like a rose. There is no problem with NASE and MEGA being joined at the hip, I really don't see that being a selling benefit but we will run with that. The reason for MEGA being the only insurance provider is because no reputable or major insurance carrier would be associated with the company.

But it boils down to a few simple things:
*Just like any job you get what you pay for - well the same thing goes for insurance. If you want good insurance go to a major carrier plain and simple

*READ what you sign - since that seems to be a big handicap for a lot of people. I work in the mortgage industry people want to complain about rate, fee's, prepayment penalties, etc... well did you sign the acknowledgment for it? Yes, then you should of complained then. Or even if its a Refinance/Home Equity Loan you have 3 days to look over your documents and read it - DO IT~~~ This is a concept that doesn't just effect the mortgage industry or insurance companies its everything. If you want to sign something without reading it, let me put one of your blank checks underneath that pen of yours, because there is no difference!!! NOW if you didn't sign something call an attorney! :-)

*"IGNORANCE IS NO EXCEPTION TO THE LAW" - Well ignorance is no exception to really anything!!!
*Research who your buying from and what your buying!

*A salesmen 99% of the time isn't going to tell you the negatives of his company, proposal, or product without you asking or buy law having to tell you - SO ASK QUESTIONS?? So this goes back to research if its your first time buying something like this or anything compare different companies and products, and make sure your comparing apples to apples.

*Insurance companies, mortgage companies, cars, etc.. get a copy of the contract, or a blank policy to read over before you sign anything. The policy or contract may not be exactly the same when you would feel it out, but it will give you a general idea and help you prepare questions and help you know what your looking for before you sign the real deal. If the company won't give you a copy, (which I have asked about 5 or 6 MEGA employee's over a course of a year) then there probably trying to hide something and if its policy not to give you one, don't waste your money and find someone else. There is always someone out there!

Joe and Carlos your probably right by his attitude he probably isn't that great of salesmen but the fact of the matter is neither are you if you hold out details including the negatives in a sale and you would have to be to sell someone in there right mind MEGA insurance.

Amazing Ignorance!

It is amazing the ignorance of the Previous "Sales Men"! Because you are obviously not a very good one! You were not trained properly and obviously did not realize that you can sell more than the health choice plan. But I'm guessing that you were trained properly but choice to sell on price and not value, and that is to your own detriment. Most people don't care if they pay more as long as they know they are going to get exactly what they pay for. I personally only sell the PPO unless it comes down to absolute cost for a client and they can't afford anything else other than a basic hospital plan. If you really new how insurance worked and compared our PPO plan with the others in the country, you might have had a long and prosperous carrer here, although I doubt it with that attitude & Ignorance. This is what I put in an earlier post on why we are the best....

I just want to start out by saying, that it all starts with the agent. The larger that an insurance company gets, the more exposure it has to the public and the more chance there is for mis-representation. However, the other bigger factor, is how a customer wants to interpret their coverage versus what they chose to discount during the "building" of their insurance plan. 1st of all, Will you hit it right on the head that NASE and Mega are tied at the hip. So What! Is this supposed to be a crime! If so, please tell me then we can have McDonalds arrested for selling toys in happy meals, Walmart for giving you 3 cents off at the pump if you pre-buy their gift card my local supermarket who will not discount my groceries on the special buys unless I use my Kroger card.

What I'm trying to say is simply this; The whole reason for the National Association For the Self Employed (NASE) was formed, was to help provide a place where self employed people could join and use their group size to get discounts to business services as well as access to affordable health insurance. They don't try to hide this fact in any fashion that you cannot have the health insurance through Mega unless you join the association. I tell all of my prospects this up front and have no prolem with it. In fact, it is a selling point for us. The way individual health insurance is setup today is through risk pooling. When you enroll in an insurance plan with other independant insurance companies, you have usually a 12 month period before that particualar plan is closed off. Once that plan closes, no one can ever enter that same exact plan again. Not to mention that you are usually confined to a small group based on your zip code or region. So when you take a plan with xyz, you may have 6,000 more people that signed up for the same plan during the enrollment period. So what happens when these people starting getting sick, having heart attacks and major surgeries? The rates of even the healthy people are increased. And they continue to increase each year. Ever have this happen? The fact that NASE is an association (group), we have over 500,000 members. Now Mega is the only health insurance provider we offer because we want to keep all of our business and it's large members with one company so that we can get great discounts on the health insurance. This is no different than Wal-mart using it's massive sized to get a great group rate for all of it's employees.

Now here's something else I bet you didn't know; With 99% of all the other individual helath plans out there, they pay benefits based on Usual Customer and 'Reasonable' charges. The reasonable part of that phrase, is the biggest word in the insurance industry that can wipe you out. I was at a customers home last night and they had a policy with a certain company and they were paying $270 a month with a $5,100 family deductible with 100% coverage after that. My program that I offered to them was a $7,500 deductible PPO program per person with an additional $4,500 total out of pocket maximum, for $312 per month. Now which program do you think you would rather have? That other plan they had with a lower deductible, 100% coverage after and cheaper monthly, or my program with a total out of pocket exposure of $12,000? It's not a trick question initially. Heck, I would rahter have their plan than mine, if i DIDN'T understand insurance!

Here is the biggest thing:
When a company includes the words 'reasonable' in terms of how they pay, that means that they have the right to dertermine how much of the hospital bill is considered reasonable under the benefit plan. The National average of how much a company using this payment method cosiders reasonable, is 63%. So although you may have a plan that 'claims' they are going to pay 100% after your out of pocket maximum is met, that doesn't mean that is all YOU will pay. So if this client would have kept their old plan, and had a $100,000 hospital bill, they would have been responsible for the first $5,100 of the bill which would reduce the bill to $94,900. Now this company actually had to have in writing but hidden in legal jargon that they cover in the 60th percentile for reasonable charges. This is code for 60%, a little less than the national average. So 60% of $94,900 is $56,940 which they consider 'Reasonable' charges. So what happens to the other $37,960 that was not covered? Oh, YOU are held responsible and you better hope the hospital gives you a break and reduces that 50%! And if you pull that miracle off, that is still a grand total of $24,080 total out of pocket that you paid. Imagine if the bill was higher!

Our plan says in writing, we cover for Usual and Customery charges. We don't use the word 'Reasonable'. So what this means is if you had a total hospital of $750,000 with our program, you would pay your $7,500 deductible and your total out of pocket of $4,500 which comes to a grand total of $12,000 and that's it! We cover absolutley 100% after you pay these amounts, no questions asked!

Also, it showed in their policy in writing, that the insurance company can raise their rate at any time as long as they provide a 30 day written notice. They also said they can raise the rates based on the claims ratio in the schedule of benefits which means, "the more you use your insurance, the more we will increase your premium".

My policy says in writting "You cannot be individually picked out for a rate increase".

So in the end, you know why my client signed up with me, for a higher premium with a higher deductible. Because we protect our people! We are not designed to cover every little sniffle or cover 100% of all your testing and doctors visits. We are designed to help keep you from losing every thing you own if you had a serious catastrophic event. We are Dream Keepers!

However, if you want to pay a little more premium for these things, we can offer doctor's visits for $20 co-pays, $10 for generic medication (automatically included with any health plan. We can help you with the big testing such as MRI's and Cat Scans with a deductible of $500. We have the best indemnity products in the country for the money which includes: Accident, Critical Illness, Income Protection, Life Insurance and Income for each day that you are hospitalized. And we also offer Dental and Vison which most companies don't offer anymore.

So in conclusion (finally) I am very proud to be a NASE field represtative and a licensed agent for the Mega Life & Health insurance company. I truly take time with each client to explain in full detail, everything I explained in this letter and exactly how each of our benefit options work. Then I let them decide what is important to them in their plan. So we may not be the 'cheapist' insurance company in the country, but we darn sure are the best! Chao'

Alas, we have another brainwashed, inept Mega agent on the "defense". Joe, the policy is a piece of s**t. I sold, I know it like the back of my hand....it is a BASIC Hospital/ Surgical Plan. Not the Major Medical that your agents lead people to believe. Please refer to my other posts, as we don't want to ring around the rosey again. You were recruited, trained (brainwashed, lied to, misinformed) about insurance and the health insurance business. Please do not post some ridiculous rant about what your company does that is so great. Your company sucks donkey d**k.

Mega does cover pregnancy....

Mega will cover up to $6,000 in pregnancy IF you purchase the maternity rider.

Obviously you did not.

I am an agent for Mega and I make it a point to show everyone the rider and explain to them that pregnancy is only covered IF they purchase this rider.

This is a benefit. If you are over 40 and don't plan on having children you dont have to pay for maternity. This helps keep your premium down! It makes sense. Many insurance companied include that rider whether you are 12 or 60.

Obviously a 12 year old or a 60 year old does not need this rider and why should they pay for it.

Most people are GRATEFUL that they dont have to pay for this extra fee if children are not in the picture.

Mega will cover complications of pregnancy, according to you hospitalization deductible and 80/20 coverage, whether you have the maternity rider or not.

Every agent MUST present to you the plan in complete detail. Please report the individual agent to you stated Insurance Commissioner.

Also every agent is required to leave you with an outline of coverage and the same booklet they presented the information to you. This booklet clearly states what I just stated above. If you would have taken the time to read through the booklet you would have found this immediately and could have contacted your agent or Mega and had it added.

PS- The Nase benefits are very beneficial, you obviously were just checking out the "fun benefits" not the business benefits like Association 105 which allows you to deduct up to 100% of your Health Insurance Premiums from you taxes if you are self employed!

NASE never covers pregnancy......

...or very much of anything else. I was a representative of the company for a few short months. I quickly decided that I could no longer sell insurance that I wouldn't own for myself. NASE (National Association for the Self Employed) is just a cover for selling insurance for MEGA. MEGA owns NASE.

The benefits through the association are a joke, and the insurance coverage is terrible. Read your policy carefully. You can be out of pocket tens of thousands of dollars more than your deductible. MEGA (or NASE) only covers "usual and customary) fees that are deemed "usual and customary" by the company.

In other words, if your physician charges $900 for a procedure, and NASE says the usual and customary fee is $200, that's all they are going to pay. You're stuck paying your deductible AND the $700 difference. This is a really shady company. You can find better insurance if you look around.

Why do you think that salesman spent more time talking about the "association benefits" for the self-employed than he did explaining the insurance plan? And they NEVER cover pregnancy.
