To Whom It May Concern,

I have come across a fraudulent charge on my local phone bill. The charge is for a service call USA Voicemail
and appears on the phone bill as OAN Services. Supposedly the OAN does the billing service for USA and it is showing on my Verizon phone bill from the month of October. I have ordered no such service!!

The number of phone companies mentioned in these letters number quite a few from Verizon, AT&T, SBC and more. I think it is important that you share this consumer alert news with your viewers on your nightly newscast so they aware of the problem out there.

I called a Verizon Representative about my bill and she said I didn't have to pay the extra $21.55 that this billing service called OAN put on my bill. She also told me that the corporate office would be told that I dispute the charges. There is a paragraph under this name of OAN on the phone bill stating that your service will NOT be disconnected if you refuse to pay for these charges.

I will tell you one of the writers stated that they were told by a representative that they had agreed to pay for this voicemail service when they agreed to take an online survey.

BEWARE! Too many people don't read the fine print and just click on 'I Agree' to get things in motion. Be it an online survey or setting up a software program. Read the fine print.

OAN Services is a SCAM! Don't be RIPPED OFF!!

AUTHOR: Matt - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 01, 2004

With the recent dates on the posts I see continued on this site about this service I felt I owed you another update with the progress of my own handling on this scam.

As I wrote in an earlier update you must remember TWO things will stand out when you try to erase this scam from your local phone bill. That is a warm personality and a patient and understanding character in your voice when you call you local phone company. Remember that the representative you call at your phone company is just doing their job, handling customer calls. They aren't responcible for this scam ending up on your phone bill. So it is VERY important that you remember NOT TO take it out on the person you talk to when you call. As I stated in the previous update being kind, curteous and understanding will get you MUCH farther with the person on the other end.

They told me it would take one to two months to get the charges off my phone bill at Verizon. I told them that I disputed the charges. They said I would not be charged for OAN, required to pay any amount listed under the said service and my phone service would NOT be disconnected. Well, ...guess what? The Service was OFF my phone bill the VERY next month! Believe me, I was smiling ear to ear. :O) Case closed. Remember the above, it makes all the difference.

P.S. ...and to all of you affiliated with this web site I would like to wish you the happiest of Holidays to come. I am still seeking work and when I find such will be sending you a donation for your site.

To those of you reading this, you know how much mail we get delivered to our house this time of year from charities. Why don't we turn that around just a bit this season and make that one donation we decide we can afford to Rip-Off Report. There will be plenty of scams out there this holiday season in e-mail trying to sell you something or telling you that "You have received a FREE appliance." If you have any doubt on anything come here first and see if there are fraudulent complaints about it. While you're at it, tell a friend about the web site.

God Bless you all

OAN Rip Off

AUTHOR: Stephen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 03, 2004

Your right this is a scam. I noticed on my SBC bill that I was being charged $20.00 for OAN voicemail. On my bill it has a contact number for OAN (1-800-926-6435)(Just follow instructions to find out why your getting billed). I was told that I had signed up for this service by responding to some add on a website. I didn't get very far into the conversation because the woman I was talking to could hardly speak english and had poor phone reception. Just before 4pm (time they close for the day) the phone connection got so bad I could hardly hear her. I could make out that she said that she would call me back or I call her. When I did it was after 4pm and a recording told me the hours of operation. What a PAIN IN THE a*s. They need reported to the BBB.

UPDATE!!! on OAN Services and Verizon

AUTHOR: Matt - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 19, 2004

To all of you! Please remember that the first impression is the most important. In selling cars I was always taught that you can 'Hear' a smile over the phone, ...and you can. Calling up someone in a fit of rage is going to get you no where with the person on the other end. :O)

I called up the Customer Service number for Verizon and was very pleasant to the other person. It got me a long way. She said I didn't have to pay the charges from this company named OAN and the corporate office would be told that I dispute the charges and my service would not be disconnected. She also mentioned they had got many calls about this company.

(reading so many letters about this, I forgot which one had an e-mail address with it. I'll have to go back and look) This e-mail address is [DELETED]. I sent them a letter and told them I'd never ordered this service and wasn't paying for it. They sent a reply saying they would need my phone number so they could identify it with the application to remove the chareges. So I sent it to them. [Place your comments below and be sure to include your FULL contact information so Rip-off Report can contact you.]

Application? That tells me I signed up for it somewhere and have no memory of doing such. I got a reply from them the following day that said my number had been removed from the service and that it would take 1 to 2 billing cycles for it to show on my bill. ...be erased. So we'll see what happens and I will keep you up to date.
