I have been a WAMU credit card holder since 2007. Then Chase came along and bought them out, things were going ok so far. I do have a balance of about $2500. on my card right now, which I am faithfully paying off.

I have never ever been late on any payments with WAMU in the past, and never been late on this card since Chase took them over .....nor have I ever been late on any other credit cards I have. I have also never been late on my house payment and car payment either...

So imagine my surprise when I get a letter in the mail from Chase this week telling me they have closed my account. They stated 1.) "the available credit on my bankcard is too low", and the 2.) "average length of time since bankcard(s) opening is too short" and 3.) "too few accounts paid as agreed compared to total accounts"

1.) I only have 2 major credit cards, Chase and another one and yes they are high balances, but I am never late and pay more than the minimum each month trying to get them paid off quickly, and then I have about 4 other small retail cards, with tiny balances, on 3 of them (under $100.00) and one is paid off!

2.) All of my cards were opened in 2007 or before .... so I am not sure how that second item on their list applies to me... my accounts are all 2 years old or older!

3.) None of my accounts (credit cards) or loan payments (house & car) have ever been late on any of these accounts we have, so I dont understand why they said "too few accounts paid as agreed"

It just burns me up that after all these years of faithfully paying on time every month all my bills, that they just close my account like this.

I have been working for the past 3 years trying to rebuild our credit up so that we can get a new home loan with a good interest rate so we can move into a better house, and now this happens! My credit score, and rating did not need this kind of damage! It's just not right that they can close my account and damage my credit like this.

I just wonder how many other former WAMU card holders there are out here that also had their account closed by Chase? Its just sad when companies get so big they stop caring about their customers... just sad! Companies like this just run our country and our economy straight into the ground!

This is one bank that really does need to go belly up! And it would be nice if they did it soon, then maybe I wouldnt have to pay back the $2500.00 ....that would make me feel better for the damage they have now done to my credit score!

Likewise, my "good standing" Chase account closed.

AUTHOR: Questocity - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 29, 2009

My circumstances are very much the same if not identical to all of the previous posters. Chase Bank notified me by letter that my credit card account has been closed "for the following principle reasons - total available credit on bankcards is too low - time since last past due is too short - current or history of severe past due or Public Record item."

I, too was a satisfied customer of WaMu prior to Chase's buyout. I have NEVER been late with my credit card payment and more often than not, pay more than the minimum monthly amount due. My other forms of credit - car loan and student loan are paid on time and in good standing as my Experian Credit Report verifies.

When I called to inquire about my account closing, the Chase representative would not state a reason for their decision, instead they referred me to Experian Credit Report Agency for answers.

I am a responsible consumer who will soon be embarking on the goal of home ownership. However, this decision by Chase will hurt my long-awaited and judiciously planned efforts to build credit so that I can purchase a home.

Recieved the same letter today dated July 21,2009

AUTHOR: 1native1 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 28, 2009

I called asking for an explaination of "average length of time since bankcard opening is too short" and "too few open accounts with time on file greater than 24 months". She could not explain it and keep reading it back to me as a valid explaination. Will this reflect porrly on my credit? I opened my account two years ago when I moved to the US. My balance is uner $20, always paid on time. I did however, have a balance of over $1000 last month and paid it off before the due date. Are the angry for not being able to hit me with high intrest rates? I truly don't understand and hope someone will shed some light on this for all of us. I had a feeling after the change from WAMU things would go downhill.

Legality

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 28, 2009

It is very legal for them to do this. They are the company extending you credit, they can remove that offer of credit at any time. You have no right to have credit with any bank. Does not matter what your score is.

Here is what the REAL issue is with your account. All of you have high credit scores. All of you pay more than your minimum. All of you are probably very responsible with your money. That means they have no desire to have you as a customer. You are not making them any money.

they want the people that pay but are habitually late. They want the people that run high balances and pay the minimum. They don't want the responsible people, they want the somewhat responsible people. This is where they make their money.

Remember, credit card companies are a business. If you are not making them any money, they have no desire to keep you as a customer.

Chase Credit Card Closed my Card- I have a 725 Credit score!

AUTHOR: Liamsmommy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 27, 2009

I got the same exact letter and their explanations were the exact same as yours! I also was a WAMU member and they NEVER treated me this way. I contacted Chase and they gave me the brush off and told me to dispute it with the credit reporting agency "Experian"- Then I could send in a request to Chase to review my account. What the heck kinda of help is that! I checked my Experian credit report this morning-Just in case there might be something going on that I was not aware of...nothing different.

I have a credit score of 725!!! No lates on anything. Not one thing. Not over the limit on anything either. I have two credit cards and a car loan. That's it! Thats it! I pay above the minimum every month. Yes, I owe more on them than I would like-but I am just like everyother American out here trying to keep my head above water. How is it legal for Chase to do this to us? If I would have thought I was even close to this happening I would have done something to prevent it-They didn't even give me a chance!

If anyone has any suggestions as to how to best handle this-Please Help!

The same thing happened to me today

AUTHOR: Mary R - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 23, 2009

I also got a letter from Chase today. They closed my account for the same reasons. I had WAMU origionally for well over a year. I called them and they stated that paying on time is no longer a "yardstick" that is used to decide on keeping an account open. Don't we have any rights as consumers if we have done nothing wrong? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mary
