Dr. Tomshack is a great talker and sales person. If you google HealthSource specifically in Chiropractic Economics magazine you will find lots of others that have nothing good to say about this guy...
His entire organization is based on "killer" ad marketing...
Bring in a PT and Massage person and MAX bill their insurance...
Also sell them ALL on a low back belt or other braces..regardless if they need it or not...
People are dropping from his company as they discover that this is a HUGE expense and after the multiple increases in office expenses...you dont make any more money...you make him money...
Very gray areas of billing and snake oil marketing...lowers the chiropractic profession...I bet based on multiple suits against this guy that HealthSource goes away in the very near future..

It is obvious that you are angry and hurt somehow? To have so much bad energy only hurts you mostly but also other hard workers in HS. I find people who lash out always have some sort of ownership problem and blame others for their short comings ( Really cat be any other way ). The sooner you really figure that out the sooner your life will get better my friend. On a another note Healthsource is made up of very common systems that work in almost every successful business from HS to Wall Mart so the record for success stands quite well in the word of business. In this model is your willingness to understand completely what it is and the willingness to implement those systems and ask questions to make your success better.In fact the willingness to do better at life would be the same. Healthsource is a terrific company with great integrity that's what i have seen over the past 5+ years and there are many people employed by the 380 franchises across America. Do you really wish them all harm based on your view?? and if you do then i think it says a lot about where you are at my friend. I would like to know what else you have done in your life that would qualify you to make such statements about a business that has grown from 40 to 380 franchises in 5 years and has been written up in ENTREPRENEUR MAGAZINE and other great publications for many years in a row. You should ask yourself. How does a company do that based on your thoughts and outlook on this company?? Obviously its very silly!!?? Hope you the best on other outlooks in your life. so funny that the answer is: you failed, you work for the insurance company, you cant adjust, you suck. FIRST..I have had 8 chiro offices to your 3. Second, I feel proud that I give CrapSource 10K / month cause I can? 7% for what? the outdated manual that looks like a cross between Gibson, Breakthrough Coaching and CEO programs.
I dont do REHAB at my offices, why? CAUSE I AM A CHIROPRACTOR, not a P.T. What studies show, that chiropractic with rehab is better? REHAB is done to MAKE $$....have your patients walk on a treadmill or sit on a bike for 22.5 mins so you can bill for 2 units of therapy is being an INSURANCE w***e.
There is no reason to do that. That is why in my office LOTS OF PT referrals...
You are getting out of practicing, GREAT - Me TOO! Cause dealing with most people frankly sucks. That is why Dr. Tomshack does not practice. Why sell chiropractic to the public when you can easily sell it to other chiropractors. 25K down and 7% of what you were making?
They only allow certain people in....wow that sounds so inviting...LOOK AT ME AND MY OFFICE, THEY PICKED ME CAUSE I AM SO PROFESSIONAL...I AM SO GOOD....BULL s**t...they took your money and hooked you with PHUNKEY and GLOSSY ADS and again WHAT SYSTEMS...?
AND I thought all these 330 offices were going to go public and all the OWNERS would make so much more $$$...or was that the weight loss system that HEALTHSOURCE created?

rehab is paid for my INSURANCE companies because the medical community CONTROLS everything..

1. Healthsource is a business model designed to help run your practice.
2. Fired employees complaining and bad mouthing there employye what a novel approach a disgruntled employee.
3. If you failed at this model you will fail at all other models to complain about the 7% fee you are being petty. I would love to be paying 10k a month because if you do the math it means my office collects alot of money.
4. HS is by far the most insurance compliant organization and no they do not teach how to lower co-pays. To the Jr. Lawyers out there relax. There are over 330 offices nationwide for a reason. Of course there are some losers out there who want someone to do all there work and just see patients that won't happen. YOU HAVE TO WORK!. You have to put in some effort to be successful

Wow don't add services that help the patient. Also Insurance companies actually push chiros to do rehab because university research shows that adjustments work better with exercise therapy.

There are over 330+ offices and growing it is the #1 health franchise, yeah this guy knows. Healthsource teaches you how to run an office not to save you from failing in practice which has or is happening to many of these guys.
For all you guys reading HS-IT post and taking it as gospel call a HS doctor and ask his experience this guy is obviously flawed and to let you know HealthSource does not accept every Chiropractor that applies or has the money for the franchise fee. They do screen and actually refuse potential owners.
Oh Yeah! I am a dumb a*s who paid for the franchise (3 times) and in the process of opening my third office and phasing myself out of practice. Good thing I didn't read these posts by a bunch of underachievers who are obviously failing in practice. Because I would be on some board complaining how much chiropractic sucks and I should have been an MD, whose salaries are declining and have no way recapturing it!

CEO has nothing to offer. Sign their contract and you are in trouble. You are OWNED by HealthSource after that. I would not send my dog to a HealthSource office. Scripts and scripts and let's see what your insurance will pay for, and then that is what you need. Trust me, CEO is nothing special. A repackaged concept multiplied a few hundred times by desperate chiros..

you dont practice or you do...but you would spend 20-30,000 on a manual and what system? is it reproducible like a McDonald's or a Subway? this is healthcare..and trust me the only person doing well is HealthSource corporate. You would allow royalities. There is a doctor in Chicago that has over 100 clinics...Called ChiroOne...He has a system for building offices so he reproduced it 100 times...Why would someone FRANCHISE? TO MAKE MONEY...
I personally know 5 HealthSource owners....4 are very unhappy, 1 is happy. I tell you what let's contact every single owner of HealthSource and see what they say. There is nothing casual from you...You are probably at Discovery Day selling the franchise to unsuspecting chiros..
I seriously doubt that HealthSource is the solution for any chiropractor. What is the program to follow? As a casual observer, you cannot possible know the system or protocols, but I do and know and I am telling you -- it is nothing.

I have never been involved with HealthSource personally, basically because I do not plan on practicing for much longer after 40+ years. Having said that, I have observed a close friend of mine and others in my area who have chosen to purchase a HealthSource Franchise and have seen nothing but good results for these doctors. Were I younger, I would probably purchase a franchise for myself.
HealthSource requires a doctor to follow good business practices and holds the doctor accountable for his personal goals for the practice. Those that are willing to use a good business model and practices and follow budgeting, PR, and administrative structure will do well. Those that want to "do it their way" will find that HS is not a good fit for them.
Most doctors do not run a business, they have a good job. They do not hold themselves accountable for the goals they set and have little relationship with or understanding of good business practices.
A franchise is not a "management consultant", it is a franchise. You buy the franchise and follow the policies of the franchise, period. There appears to be leeway for personal preference, but if you want the full benefit of owning a franchise you must do what is required of a good business.
Any doctors that have a hard time understanding the difference between a "business" model and what most doctors practice should read "The E-Myth for Physicians" by Gerber.
Bottom line, if you are not willing to do what it takes to be successful in the franchise model, don't buy into the franchise.

I could care less how much money you make or have or what you have in a car, house or any of that crap. I have a nice house and a nice car too. Anyone on this planet can make money. Now with that said, at the very least..be HONEST...HONESTY is something that Chris Tomshack has not mastered. Copying other people's business forms, ideas and software and putting his spin on it OR maximizing it with his vision is his business..
BUT being dishonest and lying is UNACCEPTABLE...once you sign, you're done. I am not a franchisee that is upset now..I have dealing with Chris Tomshack and he lied to multiple sources and entities in an effort to hurt me and my family.
If you want a list of doctors that have been employed by him and were promised a lot and he simply screwed him..I can get their names and e-mails to you.

sure if you are a good talker, presenter and motivator, then go do a bunch of screenings, lectures and talks and be aggressive and sell them on long-term corrective care or long-term chiropractic..
what system does Healthsource offer? NONE...you are better off buying Dr. Eric Breitenmoiser's system or contacting CEO ( Chiropractic Elite Org )...
the only way to build your office, MORE NEW PATIENTS, RAISE FEES, INCREASE YOUR PVA ( more visits ) and increase services...adding massage, or orthotics, vitamins...
otherwise you want to pay 5-7-9% of WHAT you collect now and give that to Tomshack....why not find a chiro near you that is doing what you want to do and model after that office..
the logic of giving HealthSource thousands of dollars and committ to their software and large increase of overhead is insane....
if you like your office, then bring in a chiropractor to share space...I did that...I have a chiro that shares my space...he pays me 1/2 of everything...that means I get a check every month from him for about 7000....that is 84,000 I will now have by sharing my office space...
that 7K is in the bank EVERY month...it adds up....
BE SMART, no more gimmicks, no more free x-rays, t-shirts, bent pens, tele-marketing or ambulance chasing...BE SMART....
and now I am bringing another chiro at 60% of what they collect, I will make 40% of their efforts...

Do you have proof of your accusations? I have witnessed nothing but ethical behavior from all the people at Corporate Office, Tomshack is a visionary and he knows that for too long Chiropractors have not stuck together, they need to help each other and stick together. I do the marketing in our office and we do not use all "killer" ad marketing, you don't know what you are talking about. They have NEVER told us to MAX bill the insurance or sell them ALL on low back belt or other braces. They also tell us not to recommend belts or anything else unless the patient NEEDS them. The billing and coding has been very explicit that you must code correctly and not code anything you do not do. Jim Hoven explains this to all Doctors and they will not accept inferior coding. I don't know what you mean by "snake oil" marketing, sounds like something you made up. You must be one of the doctors that got into HealthSource and did not do right or was not ethical about your coding and billing, so you probably got kicked out by Corporate. You are probably angry at them and just want to strike out at them. There are bad Chiropractors and you are probably one of them. HealthSource has very good marketing materials and they help their franchisees very much, all you have to do is call or e-mail them. Some District Managers may not be the best, but unless Tomshack is made aware of that he can't do anything about it. There are bad people in all professions, and there may be some bad ones in HealthSource, but all in all the ones I have had the pleasure to meet are very good Doctors and they run their clinics like they should. You are probably one of those that cheated the patients and over charged them for things. Maybe some are not doing what they should be but the majority is pretty much following the guidelines I feel. If anyone wants to know about the company contact other Doctors in HealthSource and talk to them, ask them questions, ask them how they like it. Don't listen to jerks like Joe from Cleveland.

I forgot to mention...I was talking to one of my chiro friends near a HealthSource office...they have completely stopped the killer ad inserts...One too expensive...ROI sucks on them and they dilute the area by doing them too much...Instead of focusing on quality healthcare and providing a great service..they are more concerned with milking the insurances for tens units, orthotics and un-needed back braces....

I've run a franchise company and here's the drill: The people who do well think they didn't need you; the people who do poorly usually don't follow the system and then blame you. It's those in between, the franchisees out there following the system and busy running their successful businesses, who don't get heard--and this is the majority.
AGAIN, if you're considering a HealthSource franchise, call the docs who are running their HealthSource businesses RIGHT NOW. Why talk to a couple of bad apples? Tomshack did not invent a d*** thing. His team is comprised of people from a company called CEO...In fact Tomshack took all the same forms and many of the teaching people are directly from CEO....
If course if you get 10 docs that have no clue on how to run an office and join HealthSource, I am sure it would be helpful to them..But at 7% of monies they were already making...
Most chiropractors have no clue on how to obtain patients and run a successful business...Understand that if this model was so great. Every chiropractor would have 10 offices. The fact is many office probably got some help with efficiency from HealthSource just like any other management group..This one is just one of the most priciest..PLUS you are stuck under the "BRAND" which is really nothing...
I know many people and can provide names, e-mails and phone numbers that will argue to stay away from HealthSource. It is nothing special...Killer ad's and screenings..WOW stop the presses....So really new stuff there. Plus adding as much back - end business that you can - that is fine. But you can sell tens units, braces, orthotics and vitamins on your own...Tele-marketing and getting accident reports, does not equal a system...
Most people under HealthSource did so in desperation to save a sinking ship...Whenever you need a name or number to validate my opinions...as I know many people within HealthSource...you let me know...
Go to discovery day and count how many times, they say "system"...and trust me after you drop 25-35,000 then 7%....you will feel like the biggest dumbass in chiropractic....You do not need their "magic" scrips...there is no magic ad that pulls, or anything else they are pushing....

As an independent consultant, I've had the opportunity to work directly with Dr. Tomshack and his team as well as many of the HealthSource doctors. I have an entirely different view on what JOE claims. First of all, this endeavor is not about Dr. Tomshack. While he may be the driving force behind the company, he has put together a dynamic team and together they have created a system for providing excellent, consistent and reliable care for patients. He has streamlined the back office so that doctors can spend more time caring for patients and less time worrying about the operations of their practice. If what you say is true, it's certainly not what I've heard from the HealthSource docs I've met. Every single one I spoke with told me they were happy with their decision to join the HealthSource team and feel that as a part of the HealthSource organization they are helping to advance the profession. Several of the doctors also told me that having the support of HealthSource corporate and the other doctors in the system has proven invaluable. I think the growth rate of the company speaks for itself. To anyone considering becoming a part of HealthSource, I urge you to take comments like the above with a grain of salt. Do your own homework. Call around to the doctors in the system and find out for yourself. I know you'll get a much different story from what JOE in Cleveland has to say.

The previous post is false. I have been an employee of a HS franchise for the past 15 months. I have been at the training in Cleveland twice during that time. Never have I heard anything unethical regarding billing; no bypassing Medicare to get to the secondary, no max insurance billing and certainly no reducing or writing off deductibles or copays. There are no hidden magic forms or formulas to figure this out either.
We do have an indigent policy which a patient signs stating that they have a financial hardship. It has been used once in our clinic. We collect deductibles and copays in full and its a rotten time of year cause all the deductibles are rolling over. We do have payment plans to collect these if the patient requires it.
All treatment plans are customized based on condition and severity although after 25 years of practice its not difficult to estimate the number of visits and HS has a 4 class system to simplify the recommendation process. Items such as low back braces and orthotics are prescribed on an as needed basis. We sold 2 back braces and 8 pair of orthotics last year. Certainly not "sells them all on a low back belt or other braces... regardless if they need it or not".
Bottom line is evry individual business under the HealthSource name has the opportunity to run a business the way they want to. Some chose to do it unethically as in any business. I have received and reviewed every bit of material in the HS operations manual. There is nothing unethical in any of it regarding patient services, recommendations or billing.
You can think what you want re: the franchise model. Nobody going in was unaware of expenses. HS provides a system, policies and procedures to manage a chiropractic office.

In response to "Scared" in Las Vegas. Emotions aside, our HS office always strives to be "upfront" and honest with our patients. Any discussion on fees charged for services was based on getting paid for the services we provide. We were and are trying to make a profit. There is nothing illegal about a business trying to be profitable. Often discussions about charges with the regional master were about correct codes for services and about documenting what we were truly doing. We always try to give the patient better service than they bargain for.
In response to the personal attacks, "scared" knows that her medical and personal issues "carried" her in this office for a long time. She was given a pass many times because of "medical" issues. The emotional affair has no place or relationship to this forum. To talk about specific health issues and to mention them would be inappropriate. However, they did not lead to her dismissal. She was terminated due to an inability (over several months) to accurately perform her duties as a Financial Officer and insurance clerk. Our accounts became so disorganized and inaccurate that we are still digging out, three months later, from the hole this individual has put us in. As far as the other employee's medical leave...that points out that that we are FAIR and NON-DISCRIMINATORY. She is still employed because she can do her job and she does it well.

I was fired last week from a HealthSource Franchise. The main reason was that I was on medical leave for 5 days to due to the physicians "weening me off" a horrible medication for restless legs called Mirapex. I was exhuasted and VERY TIRED and was having trouble carrying out my duties as receptionist AND financial officer. The doctor in charge thought I needed several days rest during the second week of "weening" if you will. He wrote a note to the chiropractor/employer on Rx paper stating that this "employee is off work until further notice." I was fired 5 days later - officially in a letter for me from the employer - for the reason that "I was unable to perform my duties."
This is illegal. He CANNOT fire me due to being on medical leave for a week. Also, another co-worker was off on medical leave for 8 weeks due to surgery and she is STILL CURRENTLY WORKING THERE. *shocking* So, now we have not only wrongful termination but also discrimination.
ON top of that (and I am NOT proud of saying this) but we began an emotional affair for months, and months.........that eventually became physical because he told me he was going to leave his wife as he did not love her anymore. Oh my. Yes, I am an idiot. I know! Please don't rub it in anymore.
REGARDLESS of my involvement, he was an EMPLOYER and should have not done this. While working for HealthSource I was shocked over, and over, and over at all the MONEY HUNGRY comments and actions made my employer but even MORE, by his regional master who would come to the office or phone call saying "Why aren't you charging these BCBS-insured patients more!!!???"
It was ludicrous. More to come later..........but I Needed to get some things off my chest.
