Boomerang Data Recovery Service, BoomDRS, Boomerang DRS Treats Customers With Utmost Disrespect, Lists YOU As a Crook/Liar For Exercising YOUR Consumer Rights! Internet

I had used the Boomerang DRS software (v1.1.2) ONCE in July 2008, and never used it again. I was a little skeptical when I learned of it's phone home requirements for each and every restore, but I wasn't using the software outside of the agreed upon usage terms, so I didn't think much of it.

4 months after the one and only time I had used the software, I started getting emails from BoomDRS telling me that my account was banned for license violations. I contacted support 3 different times, each time explaining that someone elses account had been mixed up with mine, providing specific details that pointed out the mixup within their system.

There was one FAQ that stated that if you inquired about a banned license, it would be reviewed by an actual human, and that you would get a response outlining the reason. I was never given this courtesy, despite pointing out the FAQ article in one of my contact attempts with Support. Sadly, this FAQ article no longer exists on their site.

I should point out that their banning of my license was around the time that Version 2 came out. The Version 2 license allows you to use their software on multiple computers, but limited the amount of data you could recover. Because I liked having the ability to recover as much data as I wanted from the one computer that was licensed to use the software, I had decided not to upgrade and should have had every right to continue using Version 1 indefinitely (I do realize that the old version would be unsupported).

Aside from filling out a support ticket via a form on their website, they list NO direct contact information whatsoever. That is your only way of contacting them. Calling the 800 number on my credit card statement results in calling a disconnected number with no forwarding information. Sending a direct message to helpdesk@boomdrs.com will get you ignored. Any company that hides behind this much secrecy is usually up to no good, and Boomerang DRS is no exception.

After pursuing numerous attempts to clear my name with the company (and running into a brick wall each and every time), I exercised my right as a consumer and disputed the charge with my credit card company.

As a result, BoomDRS lovingly posted my name, city/state/zip, IP address and purchase amount to cheats-and-liars.com. Which is a shady site that currently offers (as of 2/09) no way whatsoever of removing your name from the list, or attempting to resolve the indifference (all pages state "Coming Soon!"). Since I started inquiring about the state of my account with BoomDRS (3 months ago), this is the only time they've ever bothered to contact me, and naturally they used an unattended mailbox address to do so (mailout@boomdrs.com). Sissies.

Founder Adam Yates should be ashamed for treating legitimate customers this way, especially when they are trying to prove their legitimacy. Adam and the rest of the Boomerang DRS team, should man up and accept responsibility for errors made on their behalf. They have plenty of time to delete FAQ posts and accuse people of being theifs, when they should be dedicating that time towards improving their customer service.

This event seemed to happen around the same time they rolled out Version 2, which to me is just smacks of a way to extort more money out of their customers by forcing an upgrade.

Don't let this happen to you. Stay far, far away from this company. Take your hard-earned money and give it to a developer that wishes to maintain good relationships with their customers; a company who proudly offers a way to contact them; a company that doesn't view you simply as a cash cow that they can treat with disrespect.
