Well, I am very fortunate to say that after being with Bank of America for about 20 years, it took only a $50 loss to realize that this is not a bank that stands behind their customers.

I feel sorry for the poor customer who has lost $144,000 of his own money due to identify theft and poor security checks by Bank of America, my counterfeit $50 is nothing compared to this. But it does give a warning that I think others should be aware of......once you walk out that door with cash from a Bank, if they give you counterfeit money, you are the one that takes the hit! Always ask them to verify the cash with their pen right in front of you.

In my case, I took $1700 cash of my own money out, walked across the street to deposit it in one of my other accounts in another bank, to find out $50 of it was counterfeit! Back to Bank of America immediately only to basically be accused of switching the money myself. Ok, i understand that there are people who do that sort of thing, but would I be stupid enough to take it to a bank who was going to verify it? And yes, $50 isn't going to cause disasterous things to happen to me.

But my shock comes from the reaction of the Bank manager.....I informed the teller, who then informed the manager of what happened. I suggested that they just double check their other money to be sure other bills had not also gotten thru their security checks. Well, they already did do that she said, they don't need to do it again! There was no concern or interest in doing any kind of check to make sure that they didn't unsuspectingly pass off further bills, after all, they would have to take the loss then wouldn't they? So much easier to pass it off to people who don't typically come to the bank with their own pen to verify the money they are receiving!

Sad to say, no help either with the customer service number (or the supervisor's they speak with) nor the local branch managers....you get my point.

So $50 is a pretty cheap lesson, but my warning to all....if you get cash from a bank, have them verify in front of you that the money they give you is not counterfeit! And if you can, take what money you have from Bank of America and put it in a smaller bank in your area, I am sure you will get much better service. I am in the process of doing this!

If you still ahve the money, contact the FBI. Let them look into it. IF there is one fake$50, there are probably more.
