The Walmart in store return policy can be clearly viewed here: http://www.walmart.com/returns
Nowhere does it state that air mattresses cannot be returned.

In the store there was no sign posting this exception in the air mattress department, nor was there anything printed on my receipt.

The air mattress I purchased was just awful very uncomfortable so I went to return it the next day. They pointed out a small sign in the returns department stating no returns on air mattresses. I asked them to show me either where the sign is posted in the air mattress department or on my receipt. They told me it is not posted anywhere else.

They absolutely refused to take it back. They offered me the option of buying a more expensive one but the only more expensive one they had was opened and no way I was buying that.

I was a Walmart shopper because they have good prices and a liberal return policy. I cannot believe they would pull this and expect me to run over to the return department before making any purchase to make sure they didn't add it to the exception list.

Any other store posts their exceptions in that department as well as on the receipt.

The returns policy posted online still has no mention of air mattresses.

When they refused to take it back I told them where to go and left the mattress there. They really got me upset and they refused to call corporate or even the store manager.

I have since read others have been burned by this ad hoc return policy. I think it's time for a class action suite.

I called corporate to complain and am supposed to get a return call but haven't heard back yet.

I have no problem with any exceptions to the return policy as long as it follows the law and is conspicuously posted near those goods and/or marked on my receipt.

ok, there's no way you would buy another mattress because it is opened (and presumably unused), however it's okay to return one that you OPENED and TOOK OUT THE BOX and SLEPT ON?

If it is posted, doesn't matter where, they don't have to flinch. The return policy you read online may not apply to in-store (altho they should specify it clearly). I'll be honest, you'll be lucky to get a response from anybody. There's nothing "illegal" about the return policy on this, actually it's nice to hear they are enforcing the return policies that has been in effect for years.

and just because other stores print that info on a receipt doesn't mean walmart is supposed to. remember, this is walmart, a totally different animal.
