Joann Ward & her son Steve are unprofessional, degrading, self-serving tyrants! They willing take your money and then follow through with verbal abuse and matches that never seem to materialize. I would contact them and they continually blamed me for not having a meeting materialize. Is not that what professional matchmakers are suppose to do? Not just throw you a phone number.
Steve had the nerve to throw my Aunts funeral in my face for a reason not to be able to meet an introduction. He wrote to me the following:
According to him you were supposed to meet on a Friday in the middle of June but you cancelled due to a death in the family.
Joann recently wrote me the following, when I indicated I had not had an introduction in months.
It seems that considering we have put 7 men in front of you, you chose to let things fall through the cracks. I have spoken with Catherine's Connections and they said they had some of the same issues with your account.
I cannot believe she mentioned another matchmaker to me! One who had produced mindful matches. This comment was an unprofessional, catty barb.
What sort of people pray on and abuse their clients? If I dare call Joann, she yells, screams and hangs up on me. You cannot talk to her about a match. You just get an email w/ a profile and a phone number. I could have gone on line & gotten such sparse information and saved $5,000!
Joann commented that I could be matched up with a good-looking man, if I only would get plastic surgery. I have come to learn that she pushes plastic surgery on quite a few of her female clients.
I wonder how such dishonest people can stay in business.

Steve, I notice you do not address the issues brought up regarding your mother's abusiveness towards clients. I am another client to whom she suggested plastic surgery. Frankly this is insulting especially to women. The mantra that you and your mother say is to be honest and yourself, yet she belittles clients by telling them they are somehow defective unless they chop up their bodies to meet some sort of idealized perfection. Badly done.
Another issue is one of matching versus the hype. You sell a bill of goods on which you don't deliver. For me, I have been waiting nearly two years for a date. The ones that were suggested to me were ones that he and I do not have anything in common. For example, 4 of the men were republicans. I am a card-carrying democrat and attend democrat fundraisers with influential people in the party- are you trying to get me ostracized?
Fortunately, my self-esteem is much stronger than the tantrums that your mother throws.
Clearly, matching on traits such as interests, intelligence, energy level, etc. are not your top priority- age and looks are as well as ability to pay thousands of dollars. I think people would be more willing to contract with you if you were honest with them regarding this.

We appreciate the efforts of consumer advocacy groups to mediate discourse between us and our client friends. What you will not find on this website are comments from hundreds upon hundreds of satisfied singles who have enjoyed their experience with Master Matchmakers and found meaningful relationships with our support, direction and guidance. What you will find are half-truths and false accusations. I could dissever from the information in this complaint that the person who wrote this is a woman by the name of Ellie not Stephanie. When this woman expected to meet men 5-10 years younger than her she was told matter of factly that those men are targeting women 5-10 years younger than them and if she expected to compete with those women she'd have to look as good as them.
The terms, conditions and expectations set forth in our services agreement are very simple. We expect anyone we represent to be completely forthright about anything consequential to a relationship. We verify appearances, identity, marital status, criminal records, etc. unlike any matchmaking service around. If we find someone is being dishonest we will expel them from the service. We provide references upon request. We provide photos and profiles when presenting a match and are available to answer any questions or concerns before or after someone accepts an introduction. We go so far as to arrange for people to speak before they meet and in good faith we won't consider it a match towards their agreement until they meet face-to-face (unlike other services).
We are fair and honest matchmakers, communicating critical feedback in hopes of affecting a positive change in the lives of our clients. Even when faced with objections we will be steadfast if we still feel it could work. Clients are given every opportunity to pass on a match even if it disappoints us.
Also unlike other services there is no time frame on our service so that our clients can feel free to pursue a relationship, endeavor, or opportunity that might prevent them from utilizing our matchmaking services for a period of time. We even allow Client Friends to assign their unused matches to an acquaintance if they no longer have a need for them.
We work extremely hard on behalf of all our clients and stand behind our agreements. Clients are forewarned that if they are rejected, disappointed or dismayed by our approach to matchmaking they will not be entitled to a refund. Of course we expect to have success with everyone we represent but we'd rather deal with non-sense complaints then give someone the satisfaction of getting their money back after countless hours of work on their behalf.
