In May 2007, two young ladies rang my door bell asking me to purchase magazine subscription(s) to help them obtain a trip to Mexico. They were both very personable, although Tenesia did the majority of the talking. She answered all my questions in detail and explained their process and friendly competition with other young sales people.
After viewing their list of available magazines, I asked about gift purchases and they said "no problem". I agreed to buy a one year subscription to large print Prevention magazine for my grandmother's birthday. her birthday was two months away and Tenesia assured me the magazine would be arriving by July. It is NOT. I paid by check and it has long since cleared my account (no hope of placing a stop payment). Attempts to reach the company have not been successful.
The cost was more than a subscription would be if I had purchased directly from the magazine. Tenesia provided a company telephone number when I asked and wrote out a receipt explaining one copy for my records, one for tax purposes.

Report to FTC.gov

File any reports with these individuals or any like them to FTC.gov. FTC.gov is the URL for th Federal Trade Commission. The "Salespersons" are also being taken advantage of, theatened, beaten and stranded. The "Bosses" will bring people in from different areas so they are not familiar and are dependant.

Also Ripped Off But Praying for Tenesia and Others

I just want to say that I was also ripped off by this company. I also felt sorry for the person at my door who was so sincere, who even referenced God, saying that he had made a lot of bad choices in his life and wanted to turn his life around. Thanks to the reports by Tenesia and the other ex-employee, I am sure he was sincere.
Sadly, I didn't receive my subscriptions either, but I did pray with this gentleman, so although it was a financially costly mistake, I do hope that my prayer for him was helpful. I am so sorry for all of the people who were ripped off as well as the employees who are being led in the wrong direction.
Thank you, Tenesia and others who have given your perspective. It makes me sad that so many of you have been led astray. I am sorry for your hardship and desperation. I pray that each one of you will find legitimate and meaningful employment. Jesus loves you very much! Turn to Him and He will direct your paths.
I also pray that all of us who have been ripped off would find forgiveness in our hearts towards the salespeople. It seems that they are victims here. Finally, I pray that Vinny would repent of his greed and dishonesty and be saved.

It's not the salesman fault.

I worked for Sunshine for awhile, it is NOT people from crack houses. What usually happens is while the sales people (usually ranging from 18 to mid-twenties) they run into another young person who asks how the sales person got into it and how much money they make and so on. So of course the sales person talks about the potential money to be made and the friends you make and how you travel all over and of course it attracts many young peoples attention. No one tells you if it's a scam and of course us young people are too naive to ask. After being there for a while you start to notice things (like people saying it's for school and what not). Then you start hearing slight rumors of people who haven't gotten their magazines, or found out that people never got their magazines from the year before when you knock on the door. We were never told how many people actually got their magazines (though I know for a fact three of my friends who ordered right before I joined got theirs, one did not). There actually are trips awarded for the top sales person, usually to cancun, but the price to pay to get there is not worth it when you start realizing you may be scamming someone. None of us knew what we were getting ourselves into, or that not making any sales in a day may make you be forced to do the "truffle shuffle" on the side of the highway or to dance around a van singing a degrading tune about yourself if you expected a ride back to the hotel. I did meet some friends there, but that was the ony positive thing I have to say about it. Anyway please don't blame the person selling to you, not most of then know until it is too late. Vinnie Pitts was the main guy at the time, with smaller people under him who ran us. If you see anything that say SSA, Sunshine Subsription Agency, Freedom Sales, Gemini Sales, or Road Doggs I would highly avoid it. I hate saying that because I know these kids are just looking for money but if they don't make sales eventually they will get tired of being treated unfairly and go home with a lesson learned. I am truly sorry for anyone who has tried to help out only to be deceived.

Tenesia

I just want to put my side of the story out there. My name is Tenesia and I am the girl that did the talking at the door. I worked for Freedom sales from 03/07 until 05/09 and there are real contests (a couple other people went on them during Christmas but I believe they where rigged).
If you got ripped off it was the company that I was working for that did it not me. I never ripped anyone off or steal any money.
There are many people that work for these companies because they have nothing left. I was homeless, jobless, and felt like my life was over. My cousin called me and told me about this cool job that pays for your hotel room and all I had to do was travel around selling magazines. And no matter what I got $20 bucks a night. That met I would have food and a bed to sleep in every night. Coming from where I was this was good news.
I have made a lot of mistakes in my life but never did I join this company knowing they was ripping people off. I didn't find out until much later and when I found out I was still broke because unless you get at least 10 magazines sold in a day or get some donations you don't make barely any money.
Companies like this that 18-30 year olds that have made a mess of their lives and act like they are giving them hope. You got ripped off and so do most of us. I came broke and left with even less stuff then I came with.
They are horrible companies, most of them ( there are christen companies that do the right thing out there). Most people on crews (as we call them) are addicted to drugs (including weed, pills, crack, and coke and almost any drug you can think of, I even gave up my morals and values and tried everything), having sex for money or magazine sales(NEVER did that, thank God), and every night is a party at the hotel. Even the boss (Vincent Pitts) pays girls on crew for sex.
I look back and think "It was fun traveling" but other then that it made me crazy to the point I thought I was really mental and I had to leave before I completely lost myself in that life style or world. That is what they want you to do.
Sorry about the long story but I just really wanted to say I'm sorry you got ripped off and if I could pay everyone that got ripped off because of a magazine I sold them I would but prob not going to happen. I would tell people to look in to suing this man because he is living large in FL off the money he had us steal from people. Once again I am sorry you got ripped off. God Bless.
