I received several calls from a company called Simplicity Brides after attending a bridal show. After several calls over a couple of months, I decided to answer the call. The telemarketer started out saying that I had won a free gourmet dinner for two and a free vacation for two and that all I had to do was listen to a cookware presentation. But I had only two days to register for this prize. (Even though, they had been calling for at least 2 months.)

So I asked a few questions such as how much are the taxes, how did they get my information, and what would I have to sign up for. He responded by saying, the taxes are determined by the state and the travel agent would pay any port fees and such.

He said they were at the bridal show and I must have filled out a registration form (I know thats not true because I never filled out a registration form for that company, but the guy is a telemarketer he just reads a computer screen) so I said ok, my boyfriend and I will at least get a free gourmet dinner, right? The telemarketer said yes.

So my boyfriend and I go to the hotel conference room at 8:30 pm for what we think is a gourmet dinner, sit through 2 hours of hardcore, high pressure sales tactics (which my boyfriend and I find hilarious because we are both sales people pretty good ones too! We know all of the cheap tricks that you can only find still in use at a shady used car lot.) So, after the presentation, they pass around the broccoli that had been cooking during the entire presentation. (Since when has one piece of steamed broccoli been considered a gourmet dinner?)

We are definitely aggravated but we give the sales rep. a little taste of his own sales pitch medication, take the travel brochure, and leave. A few days later, I check out the travel company and what do I find its a SCAM! Fortunately, we checked out the travel agent before we lost more money!

THE ENTIRE THING IS ONE BIG SETUP!

I am so excited because my boyfriend and I just find out we won a FAKE GOURMET DINNER AND A FAKE VACATION!

Yea! We can sit on a fake beach, drink fake fruity drinks, and sleep in a fake bed!

The following are #'s and addresses I found after doing a little googleing:(I have called all of the following #s and I get nothing but voicemail.)

I too received a call from Simplicity Gourmet after attending a bridal show. I actually ended up going to a presentation twice. The first time, I went with my future mother-in-law and ended up ordering a set. That night, I told my fiance (who was out of town) about it, and he wasn't very keen on the idea of spending that much money on a set of pots. I too contacted the company to cancel my order within the three days allowed, and had absolutely no problem with the cancellation.

As far as what I was told on the phone about the meal, the person I spoke to was very forthright about the meal we'd be served. I was even told that it wasn't "a full meal" just a sampling of what could be done with the cookware.

I can't speak to the experience of the person writing this initial report, but my experience with the company has been nothing but good.
The second time I went to a presentation, my fiance went with me, and we decided to go ahead and get the cookware (yeah, again!). We received it recently but haven't had a chance to use it yet due to having opposite schedules.

As of yet, we have not used our free vacation, but when we do, I'll post an update regarding that part of our experience.

Simplicity ggourmet Is Not A Scam.

I just read the report left by a lady in Florida and I have information about what happened. first of all, I just want to clear the record by saying that Simplicity Gourmet is NOT out to rip anyone off! We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and helping our customers.

As far as the phone calls for 2 months, they were informing her that she had won a trip for two. This is how we do business. If she didn't want to go, she should have just told the gentleman on the phone she would pass.

As far as the "gourmet dinner for two", yes we do cook three vegetables in one pot with only one tablespoon of water. But we have sometimes as many as ten couples in one show so we only serve a sample plate of food. The call centers do not tell the customers that they have won a free gourmet dinner. They inform them that they will get free food. Which anyone who is told they get some food should be excited or happy, not sticking they're nose up to a plate of healthy food.

Now the reason her trip may have felt shady to her is not because we want pepoles money to "rip" them off. Sometimes we work with new travel agencies. We used to offer seven days and seven nights in a condo. But we pulled the trips because brides were calling us and telling us that people were knocking on the doors at 7 am trying to sell timeshares. We were outraged and immediately went to another travel agency and have found that our couples have been very pleased.

This lady claims to be an awesome salesperson. I would like to see her get up in front of a room of people, educate them on the harmful effects of their cookware they may have at home, and then demonstrate good quality products that benefit people without feeling passionate about their health and wellbeing. We are helping people, not scamming them.
