I, like many of you, found this posting too late. I had googled Tiny Details and searched for hours to find out if it was a scam. After actually recieving the kit I decided to try Metacrawler and thats how I found this website. When I found the Tiny Details website I was fooled by how safe it sounded. I even e-mailed them with a list of detailed questions because I figured that If they e-mailed me back I could trust them. Well, they did e-mail me back two days later and again I was convinced that they were a ligitamate company. I recieved the kit in the mail and only 4 days after ordering. When I opened the Russian Tea Box kit I was convinced that I had been totally scammed. I paid $55 for 3 sheets of printed paper, a tiny bottle of Elmer's glue and a cheap break away blade. When I looked at the sheets of paper I first thought, "how the hell does anyone work with something so tiny?" and then, "Of course they had to use flimsy paper instead of cardboard or something sturdy like that." I took a look at the sample that was enclosed. They were done pretty well. Too well. It didn't seem possible that someone could use their fingers to make those tiny folds. And how is it that these little boxes hold up so well when you only glue them in one spot, the rest is left up to the impossible folding. I then read over the instructions and tried to make a couple. They were extremely difficult to cut out because they were so small. Even more difficult to fold the tiny flaps, and when it came to actually closing the little box, you were sure to crush or twist or misshape the tiny tea box in the process. I managed to make two boxes that actually turned out suprisingly well. Not as perfect as the samples though, some of the ink on the printed paper wears off during the tedious folding and the flaps are either too large in some areas or too small to hold closed. I decided to try sending them back their own perfect samples as my first sample to see if they were accepted. They made sure to reassure me that they wanted one sample sent back to them so they could inspect it and save me any trouble making a bunch of mistakes. The only problem with that was that I had to send them a sample and wait longer to see if it even passed their ridiclous inspection. Suprise! It didn't pass. Wow, go figure. Now I know I have been scammed. I even sent an e-mail to them saying that I sent them their own sample to see how truthful they were and they rejected it. I have yet to get a response. I'm sure that this is just another scam and that I'm out $55 because I was fooled into falling for it. I hope this helps anyone in deciding wether or not to go with this company. If my experiance helps anyone then the money was well spent but please save yourself the time, frustration, and most of all, the money.

Not a good company

I wasn't surprised that the items were small. Dollhouse miniatures are supposed to be small, that's why they are called miniatures. As a dollhouse collector myself I was thrilled at the opportunity to work for TD and make some extra money. I went by their rules, sent the sample back, which was promptly returned to me with a letter that stated that my work was excellent and to make sure I continue with the rest of the kit in the same fashion, which I did. I even sent them an email with questions and concerns with was also promptly answered.
That said...
Several weeks later I am still waiting on my paycheck. I've written several emails, polite and otherwise, to them asking what the problem is, and I have been conveniently ignored by these people. I know my work was finished properly. But that is beside the point. If they cannot respect a person enough to respond to their complaint and explain, they shouldn't be in business. That is just bad business practice! They "guarantee" on their website that they'll refund your deposit or part of it, that they'll send you the work back without pay if something was wrong with it. That would at least be the HONEST thing to do. Ignoring a person and not paying them only shows their dishonesty. THAT is my problem with Tiny Details. I feel like all my hard work, plus my deposit (and shipping charges) were plain and simple - stolen by this company.

Tiny Details is not a scam

This company is not a scam, I have completed several rounds of an item with them. I have been paid by check, payment is sometimes a little slow, but then again they are sending payment through snail mail. It did take awhile to get started and when I received my first shipment I was in shock also. The item are so small and I thought like you that it would be impossible.
But I have gotten better at making them, just like any new job it takes a bit of trial and erra to get it right the first time. I just wanted to say that if you want a job that you can work from home for extra money. this would be great. I tried it because by dogs need surgery they have cancer and each surger is $600.00 to remove the lumps they have.

Leila ordered our Russian Tea Box set to assemble. The sizes of the tea boxes, as well as all of our other miniature products, are on our website. We make dollhouse miniatures--not full-sized objects. Everything we have assemblers make is 1/12 the size of something in the real life (In house we make things that are 1/24 scale, but we feel they are too small to send to assmeblers. Even our name indicates that items are small...Tiny Details!
Leila sent in a sample of her work--something we require before an assembler makes all of an item (this has been in place about a year to end any complaints assemblers have had about not understanding what we're looking for. It's easier to remake one item than it is to remake an entire set).
Leila's sample was mailed in either an envelope or some other sort of mailer that was crushable. The post office crushed her sample so we were not able to review it. The sample review Leila received back read: One sample received for evaluation.
The fold at the top of the bag should be SMALLER, about one-third to one-fourth of an inch.
Your sample was crushed in the mail. Please submit another in a way that it will not be crushed.
There's nothing we can do about improper packaging. We very clearly ask people to send in items that can be crushed in a box. Mail is automated and envelopes get crushed.
Leila has never contacted us about any other concerns nor has she sent in another sample or a completed kit. Further, she's not sent in anything for a refund as of May 1, 2006.
We're not clarvoyant--without contacting us there's nothing we can do. Had she contacted us on our toll-free number or by e-mail any time of the day or night, we could have offerred her numerous options including more materials, an extension of time if she needed it, gelped her with any issues she had, etc. We have an assembler help line for reason--I don't see why she didn't use it. We're at a complete loss why Leila didn't use the resources available to her.
