We purchased windows from Sears about ten years ago. When we agreed to get theses windows SEARS offered a lifetime guarantee. We never recieved the guarantee at this time but up until about two years ago we had SEARS replace and fix some of the windows in our house.

We recently had a horrible hail storm and our screens and windows were damaged. SEARS is now saying that we must provide them with the information of LIFETIME gurantee in order to replace our screens and fix our windows.

My mother went to open on of these windows the other day and the entire piece of wood at the bottom of the window fell off exposing the edge of the glass. My mother almost lost her hands due to these windows.

SEARS does not stand behind their windows, and their windows are very dangerous. Imagine if that was a child opening that window, that child probably would not be alive today. This is a very serious matter that SEARS must deal with.

I am sure that we are not the only people who have had this problem. Do not trust SEARS and do not subject yourself to a potentially dangerous situation.

Thousands of businesses have come and gone since Richard Sears opened his doors in 1886

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

First of all, I would like to say that I sympathize with you on your misfortune, but let's be realistic. What if; for example, your car had been crushed by a tree that had fallen due to a lightning strike? Do you think a 10 yr. 100,000 mile warranty would make you eligable for a full replacement of the car under warranty? Give me a break. I am 100% sure that the warranty you have on the windows covers all manufacturer defects and normal wear & tear. By what your complaint says it also sounds like Sears did live up to their word on the repairs that you say they made. Did they charge you for the repairs? I don't think so. If you are literate enough to take the time to write a complaint, you should be literate enough to read and understand what's covered or not in the warranty. You must also have some kind of coverage through your homeowners insurance. Ever think of that one? I hate to seem like I'm picking on you but people PLEASE!!! You have a right and a duty to know EXACTLY what you are buying before you sign on the dotted line. Ask questions, get it in writing, save your paperwork, and save yourself a headache. Don't expect that in the event of a misfortune, you are automatically going to receive something for free. Sears stands behind their products and services 100%. Sears hasn't been in business for 120 years because they rip people off. Thousands of businesses have come and gone since Richard Sears opened his doors in 1886 but Sears is still here and still #1 in the HOME IMPROVEMENT BUSINESS because of their unmatched commitment to Customer Satisfaction.

WARRANTY vs GUARANTEE

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 13, 2004

Most people in the consumer market dont' understand the difference since we are always bombarded with WARRANTIES they are pro rated. But in this case even if u have a guarantee it will not be any good because it was called in what the business states is an ACT OF GOD the hail storm damanged your windows. I sell windows myself and sears is a competitor of mine but sears can't be responsible for something like that. And remember something else sears lends their name for a fee to sub contractors who sell the products under the sears logo they will NEVER be responsible.
