I contracted with Ballys total fitness in August 2005 and laterlast year in April 2006 moved to another location where there were no gyms in the vicinity for at least 50 miles even more. I mailed a cancellation letter and original contract and member ID card along with my $50 cancellation fee in accordance to THEIR terms and conditions on contract.About 6 months later I receved in the mail a collections notice for over $500 owing for past monthly fees and thretens to send to outside collections. I spoke with Corporate and they said they denied my cancellation because I did not qualify even though I stated the cancellation fee on check and did not receive any correspondence that I did not qualify! They said I had to prove I dont live anywhere w/in a 25 mile vicinity of their gym. I proved it to them with pay stubs of my current address and they still insist that I do not qualify and I owe them more money. What will it take to stop these people for breech to their own contractual obligations. I really think they should be investigated for fradulent business practices!!!

I don't get it, why do they need my reason for canceling my membership. I'm canceling because i don't want you anymore, that's it! no need to know my reasons.
I just send them a letter to cancel my membership, and i hope they don't cost me any trouble, because i got pissed just by reading this poor persons situation.
its funny how they sign you up for a membership so fast, right there inside the Bally office, but when it comes to canceling that, they make you write them a letter and send it to them. ha- not cool.

All u need is a copy of a utility bill, a cell phone bill, a copy of a bank or credit card statement, a yellow change of address slip form the postal service, a lease agreement from your new location. Just one of those and I'm sure that you can easily get one of those to verify that you have changed address and all it needs to show is that adress is at least 20 miles away from a club in the area. all of that is stated in the contract.

Unfair business practices of BTF

I have mailed them certified copies and the only thing they told me was I had to provide proof of mailing of my current address as I did with pay roll stubs from a ligitimate payroll company. It has been over 60 days as I have not heard a responce from BTF. The now have 10 days to remove the status and respond with an explaination. If they do not comply I will seek further action with the media and my lawyer to file a class action law suit as i have been made aware that BTF is notorious with this vaguity!!!!

Can you point out the clause that states BTF Will accept your Paycheck Stub as a Verification?
