In late November 2006, I dropped out of high school due to depression problems. About a month after I dropped out, I was suggested to getting my high school diploma online. I then searched for high schools that offer diploma's online that werent very expensive. Every time I did a search, Belford High School and Belford University popped up so I decided to read the info on their website. After reading it and being fooled into believing that the diploma's were real and accredited, I decided to get one. I took their online multiple choice test and failed.
Amazingly, after I failed the test, all the correct answers showed up and they told me to go over them and re take the test. I did exactly that and passed the test. I was than offered to upgrade my score from a 2.0 to either a 3.5 or a 4.0, but for an additional amount of money.
That worried me but I decided to buy the 3.5 GPA and the total came out to a little over $300. I paid using a credit card and recieved my diploma within the week. After I got it, I decided to show one of my dad's friend's who told me that he heard of Belford before and that the diploma I recieved was fake and unaccredited, and that most employers wont accept it. I immediately did some research on the company and long behold, there are tons of complaints against the company both on rip off websites, as well the BBB. Wikipedia even says that "On March 13, 2006, Arthur Barnes, a former fire chief, was dismissed from his job for his Belford "degree".
After reading nearly 20 complaints, I decided to send them a email telling them I want a full refund immediately because they lied to me by saying the diploma is real. About 3 days later, I recieved a response from them telling me that they will not send a refund. I was extremly upset over this, but I simply couldnt do anything about it. Now, I have a 3.5GPA fake diploma that my little sister can color on and it would have more worthiness to it.
I filed this report not to get payback on the company, but to try and prevent other people from getting scammed. I would HIGHLY suggest you stay in high school and get your diploma the traditional way, but if you do drop out, DONT EVEN BOTHER WITH ONLINE SCHOOLS. Get your GED from the state you live in and be proud you got the real thing.
*MESSAGE-Belford operates under 2 different names - Belford High School and Belford University. THEY BOTH HAVE FAKE DIPLOMAS. The only difference is that Belford High School sends out fake high school diplomas and Belford University sends out fake college degrees, including an Associate Degree for $349, a Bachelor's Degree for $449, a Master's Degree for $479, and even a
Doctorate Degree for $549.*

The truth is simply this....

Unfortunately, you cannot buy a legitimate diploma. Those are scams, hands down, and may fool some people, on the rare occasion, but the truth is, there really are no credentials behind it, only ink and paper. It would still be incomplete. There are legitimate online colleges or high school courses that can be taken (e.g. Ashford University, University of Phoenix) to gain a degree or your high school diploma, which is good when you are very busy, and work around your schedule. If not, then try your local community colleges to finish high school requirements or just going to school part-time. If you want the accomplishment, then you would have to work for it. It's been said that if it seems too good to be true, chances are, it is. The quickest way (not necessarily easy, just takes less time) to REALLY gain a diploma is to take the GED exams. It would only take 3 days (if you don't go to the optional classes that prepare you for them), is taken like you would take an SAT/ACT, and you will be notified through phone and mail if you pass or fail in a week or two.

Avoid Fake Colleges

There are some easy ways to avoid being ripped off by fake colleges.
First, you cannot buy a reputable college degree that trades college-level instruction for life experience. Volunteer and work experience is something you put on your resume; it is separate from college level instruction.
Another poster stated some people cannot go to college and they should get credit for their life experience. Well, you are 'given credit' for that by listing all that experience on your resume. You are not given duplicate credit for it again as a college degree. They are 2 separate things.
You cannot 'buy' a reputable degree under any circumstances, period.
You should check into accreditation before doing business with any college. Simply call the accreditation organizations to confirm what the college claims.
Check to see if your chosen profession has any accreditation requirements. Then check if your college is regionally accredited. I'm not saying you must meet all these requirements, just go into it with your eyes wide open.
Google 'reputation' and the name of the school.

Are you serious??? PAYING for a Diploma/Degree??

Come on-you had to have known that it was a fake diploma!! When you say, "That worried me but I decided to buy the 3.5 GPA and the total came out to a little over $300" I'm VERY surprised that didn't seem fishy to you. It screams "fake" to me. I have 2 Bachelor's degrees and a Master's degree from reputable universities, but I worked hard for them and it took many years. I didn't go to a website and PAY for them.
I'm not trying to belittle you. I would highly suggest studying and going to get your GED, instead of wasting your time and money falling for those scam diploma/degree websites.

Belford University: A chance for all, not a ripp off or other nonsense!
AUTHOR: Swiss Watch - (Switzerland)

I have read many negative reports about Belford University, also some good ones. It appears that most of the negative ones come from people wanting their money back or because they have been turned down for a job! It is nonsense.
A lot of people have not had the chance to go to University in their youth. They, however, have often lead a life full of experience in their field of expertise. The system as it is seldom rewards this expertise. Belford University does. And it should. There are countless 'Honorary Degrees' rewarding people who did not get a Degree in their youth but achieved excellence in their professional lives.
I have personally employed people with a Degree from Belford University, not only because of the piece of paper, but also because of the content of their CV. A Diploma is far from being the only criteria for getting a job!
I believe that Belford University should be seen as a chance for all. The accreditation process is a good one. And, believe me, I have interviewed candidates from not 'on-line' Universities and faced mediocrity unseen from Belford candidates.
