THINK YOU NEED A TITLE LOAN? THINK AGAIN!
I am writing this so that other people are not put in the same position I am in right now.
If you are in a bind, please do not EVER go to a title loan company and hand over your title for cash! You will LOSE your CAR, and they are allowed to take it after being even a day late on your payment.
To better show you just exactly how much interest they charge, I personally had an emergency and borrowed $1,000.00. They handed me a check in less than 10 minutes, without calling to check to see if I even had a job and could afford the payments. All they wanted from me was a signature and the title to my car.
WHY? Because the car is worth more than the loan. They want you to default so they can sell your car, and make a profit after they take it from you! gOOD FOR THEM, VERY BAD FOR CONSUMERS!
I was desperate, I am a single mom, I don't have great credit, and when you need to feed your child and pay your rent, a title loan seems like a good idea! ITS NOT!!!
I needed this company to work with me. I could not afford the payments anymore. Now they have my car and if I dont come up with another $2,500.00, they will sell my car at an auction.
This company is a predatory lender, they do give loans to people who have no credit, yes, but I don't think charging over $5,000.00 in the end on a $1,000.00 loan should be legal.
DO NOT EVER, EVER, GO TO A PAYDAY LOAN OR A TITLE LOAN COMPANY!
IT WILL PUT YOU INTO AN ENDLESS CYCLE OF DEBT!
I can't get to work now so it wont be long before I lose the roof over me and my little girls head.
THEY DONT CARE! THEY WANT THEIR MONEY AND THATS ALL THAT MATTERS. DONT LOSE YOUR CAR LIKE I DID!
The rates are outrageous! They are robbing people!

Beware of this link. It's clearly spam. If you go to the site, you will find a lead capture form. The information gathered on this form is most likely sent to several predatory lenders including Midwest Title Loans.
Look for yourself, Midwest is listed as a loan option as of this writing.
This spam/troll is so inept at spamming that you'll see he answers his own post.
Mods, please keep an eye out for this type of spam...

I tried www.cartitleloans.biz and yes they are pleasant like mike said. I have been with them for 3 months and so far everything is cool. Things are slowing down at work and my wife has been out of work for 4.5 months now. Hopefully the economy will turn around soon. If you need a little cash to get by, www.cartitleloans.biz definitely helps. As long as you borrow what you can afford to pay back everything is ok, at least with my experience. Hope this helps

I had a bad experience with the Midwest as well. They are so rude it is amazing. After I paid off my loan I knew I would need te service again so I did some searching on the Internet to find a better company and I did! I went to cartitleloans.biz and found that my payments for a similar loan would be cheaper and they were friendly to me. These days that is hard to find. Check out their website and give them a call, you might like them. I have used them 4 times and they were very helpful so in all, I do think cartitleloans.biz is a good alternative to Midwest

I'm not understanding what your issue is.

No offense but you're totally doing the self pity thing, being a single mom these days is way more common than not. also not having good credit. from what I've seen, many people have bad credit nowdays. that is WHY you go to a business like that and take a loan, correct me if i'm wrong. I know there are plenty of states who give help to single moms ESPECIALLY. So I'm not feeling too bad for you here. you say they didn't call to check if you had a job. Did you want them to call your job and say, hey this lady is taking out a title loan just gotta make sure she works there. They are a HIGH RISK lender which means HIGH interest rates. I'm sure they didn't take the sign that listed the percentage rate and hid it behind the counter, and I'm pretty sure they didn't tell you it was interest free.
What it comes down to is you knew when you walked in the door what you would be paying. If you didn't want to pay that much back then you shouldn't have done it. Who else was there for you when you needed that $1,000? the bank wasn't, as you said you have bad credit, banks are very picky about who they lend to, and when you see a bank loan you don't see an apr of 300% right? it's pretty self explanatory. Title companies take a HUGE risk lending to people, they obviously don't do credit checks, they have no idea who you are or what bills you have or haven't paid. Let me know if I'm making sense with the high risk high interest thing. They took a chance on you. Obviously because you're one of the people who didn't pay them, regardless if you couldn't afford it anymore, that is why you pay so much in interest, for people like you who don't pay them back.
You may think your car is worth more than the loan but chances are they don't get what you think you would get for it if you sold it. I'm sure they don't take them to dealerships and sell them at the full blue book value. Also towing is incredibly expensive, can you imagine how much they have to pay to reposess? I know for a fact reposessions are much more spendy than to have someone tow you for 5 miles. So if you think they are making all this money off of you, think about their expenses which I'm sure they have some from recovering a vehicle.
I'm pretty sure that they would much rather have you pay them than to take your car. That just seems like a hassle. But if someone owed me money and I had a legal right to their vehicle and they didn't pay me back I definitely wouldn't hesitate whatsoever to take their vehicle. Put yourself in their shoes. don't think about the interest rate, which I think is what you're so mad about, but you did it to yourself. No one made you get the loan, it was your choice, correct? Think about it like, if someone borrowed money from you and i'm sure you had to sign a contract of some kind, and they didn't pay you, will you just forget about it and be ok with it? I know I wouldn't.
It's not really rocket science, if you put ANYTHING up for collateral and you don't pay, obviously the person you owe is going to take your property. Why? Because you agreed to it.
I think its absurd how people come on here and post things about how terrible title loans are. Well you must not have thought it was terrible when you took the loan out. People who post saying how rotten they are are just angry because they either got their car taken, or realize that instead of paying the loan off sooner they decided not to and they paid way more in interest than they planned. Oh well, sorry, it's not the title company's fault, it's yours for taking out the loan. So i have zero sympathy for you. And please, stop the pity thing.
Just remember, they didn't reposess your car--you got your car reposessed yourself.

Take your debt seriously, rich or poor.

I've taken a title loan and I don't know what all the hullabaloo is about. I run a snow plow business to make ends meet and summers can be hard financially. If I put my truck on the line, I pay the loan. There isn't going to be a repossession, and I sure as hell wont keep that loan open more than 2 months tops. Title loans may have low standards, but they have high risks. If you take the risks seriously, and pay your debt, then a title loan is a useful tool to manage your debt.

Sad story but true

I read about a musician who played "gigs" at various venues in Parade Magazine, maybe July 2006 (?).
He had borrowed $200 against his (older) Chevy Lumina title to avoid being late with the rent (a $25 late fee would apply). In the end he had paid $1200 on the title loan on the Friday he knew he would return too late to make his payment- the office would be closed- so he called them that Friday while still out of town to arrange his payment on Monday but they still repossed his Lumina early Sunday morning.
I imagine when your situation feels pressing the "need for urgent action" can simply obscure the best decision. Many people simply do not understand the effects of high loan interest rates while they may feel too pressured to think these things out. And these situations must happen a LOT because I do see MANY car title loan and PayDay Loan operations around here.
