American Income Life Insurance Ripoff Not real Interview Don't waste your time Framingham Massachusetts

For several months I've been getting emails and calls from American Income Life stating that they saw my resume on Monster.com and thought I would be a good candidate for a management position within their company.

The interview was basically a "cattle-call" meaning there were at least 50 people in the lobby waiting to interview.

I had a very brief interview with a Director named Jay and then was asked if I could sit in on a presentation about AIL. I listened to a Mr. Willy Hayden extoll the virtues of working for AIL and how insurance is a "recession-proof" business. I would state that most of us in that presentation were unemployed and looking for a "real job" with "real pay."

I then was asked back for a second interview with a Ms. Melanie Cohen. She seemed less sleazy than this Jay character. I actually liked her. But the fact was, she was not offering me a job either.

The fact is that AIL uses people by requiring them to put in hours, dictating the times people will work, and then not paying them any benefits or salary. It is an MLM, and probably one of the most driven ones I've had contact with.

I'm sure their system works, especially if you have no concerns outside of trying to make money, but the thing that bothered me was that instead of offering me a position, they were offering me an opportunity to be an independent contractor - and an opportunity to spend my money on gas to support thier business.

Everyone starts at the same level. There are no MANAGEMENT POSITIONS.IN fact, there are no positions.

The thing I can't figure out is why the IRS has not caught up with them because when you dictate hours and require someone to be at a location, then they are employees, not ICs.

The best advice I can give based on my experience, is to wait for a REAL JOB to come around. WHen something sounds to good to be true, it usually is.

Hello!

My name is Fred Hadayia; I'm the State Director with American Income in Harrisburg, PA. Our Human Resource Department has viewed your resume on the Internet and I wanted to contact you to let you know we are looking for qualified candidates to help our rapid expansion. We had sent you an earlier email letting you know I would like to set up an interview with you. We are looking for Managers and Sales Associates to help us manage our expansion in central Pennsylvania. This position is for management and outside sales. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANY COLD CALLING OR PROSPECTING, EVER!!!

Let me explain...

We have a Public Relations Department that is responsible for securing all of the leads.

Here is how it works:

1. The PR Team has business-to-business meetings with the group heads of Unions, Credit Unions and Associations. They explain our program.

2. The group votes on whether to pursue the relationship.

3. The group signs a contract with American Income.

4. A letter goes out to all of their members on the particular groups letterhead, informing them what is being made available to the members along with a reply card that the member sends back to American Income if they want to receive our no cost benefits as well as other supplemental benefits that they may qualify for.

5. Our sales team only calls on members that have requested information about our products and services.

American Income is a part of the Torchmark Corporation, a $44 billion Company that is recognized by Forbes magazine as a top Platinum 400 Company. American Income has been in business for over 54 years and is nationally recognized as one of the significant carriers of supplemental insurance in North America.

American Income is licensed in 49 states, the District of Columbia, Canada and New Zealand. If this opportunity sounds like something you feel that you may qualify for (Sales Associates average $50,000-$70,000 first year, Managers average $60,000-$90,000 first year, second year $100,000 plus), please contact our Human Resource Department at 717-202-1291.

Best Regards,

Fred Hadayia

a smart cover up is the name of the game

A smart cover up is the name of the game.

We will drop off your no cost benefits! True enough, but we will try to sell you insurance too!

I mean,, you cannot really blame the agents, either the sell or they do not have money for gas, hotels and food ( in order of importance )

The amounts spent in gas in huge, so every sale counts and some agents do it by any means possible.

On one hand you have a sales-driven agent that might do anything to get a sale, and in the other you have a naive customer putting his/her life insurance needs in the hands of an agent that will sell to them anything although the "product" might not be even good for the customer at all.

Altig International, which is one of the main promoters of AIL. It lists on their website such things as medical benefits, employee programs, extensive training to their /// Well, you get none really!

Either way, I have nothing against comission sales, but when this comission sales put in jeopardy the proper insurance needs of which a family will depend on, then its a serious business.

Selling insurance is completely different then selling knifes or vaccum machines!

Rebuttal to Rebuttal - It is against IRS regulations to require 1099 workers to work specified hours.

AUTHOR: S - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 04, 2005

I've had several 1099 jobs and they do not say you work seven days a week, every evening from 2-9 pm, every Saturday from 9 - noon, and every Sunday morning.

AIL is deceptive in how they recruit people and how they are positioning the contract job. They are a real insurance company for sure, but you are not getting a "position" in the company. You are getting a contract job. LETS BE CLEAR ABOUT THAT.

I have to wonder why you are no longer at AIL. If it was so wonderful, I would think you'd still be there.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Rip off?

AUTHOR: Lauri - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 02, 2005

As a former employee of AIL in Florida, it's a REAL insurance company with REAL 1099 contract workers.

I don't know what kind of jobs you've had where the hours AREN'T set for you, but every job I've had in over 20 years dictates hours, etc.

The bottom line is if you want to be employed by a company....DONT respond to jobs with SALES anywhere in the job description.

You HAVE to obtain an Insurance Sales license from your state. AIL will provide you leads, but its up to YOUR sales ability to provide a check, just like any other sales job I've ever had.

Don't bad mouth a company just because YOU want to be an automaton, punching a time card for a maximum amount of money each paycheck.
