Wanted to let anyone and everyone out there who is unemployed/under-employed, just looking for a job to avoid Metropolitan Marketing Concepts! They also go by the name of MK Acquisitions
I was ALMOST taken! If it had not been for this site and the people who have posted reports on this site, I would have gone on my second "test" interview.
Here are some "red flags" that became more apparent to me during my first interview and upon my 1 week of research into the company,
1. I applied to the job through a reptuable job site and noticed that this same position was posted on over 10 other job sites. They keep on reposting the same job over and over changing the description/qualifications. IMMEDIATE HIRE! LOOKING FOR TALLENT!
2. In about a hour after applying to the job, I was contacted by a lady claiming to be the HR Rep, wanting to set up a interview. I thought, wow, that was a fast response.
3. The company does not have seperate email accounts for everyone that works there, its one account through gmail.
4. Their website is tacky for a marketing company. No client list, no customer testimonials. Just a bs mission statement and some awfull chill music that plays in the background.
5. Their offices are in an old office building. When you enter the office you are greeted by someone who hands you a clipboard and asks you to fill out a application and attach another copy of your resume. I though, "hmm they already have my resume"
6. The decor of the company looks "temporary" and all the furniture/artwork and the genereal decor looks "cheap". Not typical of most professional marketing companies.
7. I was introduced to the person who interviewed me who handed me a business card, claiming to be the "president" of the company. His office had no computer/laptop, unusual for a president of a marketing company.
8. I never asked him about his experience/background, however thought it was strange he was president, he could of not of been older than 26. Very attractive, young, hip and looks "with it". Plays the part well.
9. Told me about the "process" and how they hire and how they advance people. They wanted to set me up with a second interview at "the club", a.k.a Sam's Club.
10. I was contacted with a follow-up email indicating what time/location/ and contact info for the second test interview. They called at 9:30 the night before the second interview and told me they had changed the location that I was supposed to go to for the second interview.
11. The Minnesota Dept of Commerce has no business listing for a company called Metropolitan Marketing Concepts or MK Acquisitions.
I have the feeling that the name of this company will change soon once they realize that to many people are on to them and their location will change also. They will probibly get kicked out of their current location and relocate elsewhere under a different name.
I never went on the second interview, thank god! If something looks to good to be true, its probibly not.
I would love to hear from anyone out there who actually went to the second interview and what happened, I am very curious. Pleasee contact me through this site.

Scam may not be the best word to describe this company. They do allow you to see exactly what you will be getting yourself into at the "second interview" when you shadow a current sales rep at either Best Buy, Home Depot, etc. But what you don't know when you sign on the dotted line is that this company has an extremely high turnover rate which is why they are so prompt about getting back to you when you apply.
Soon you find yourself working hours on end "hard selling" DirecTV packages to people who most likely already have a subscription with a Cable or Satellite TV provider. So you may sell a few packages after working a 40 hour work week, which at $90 a sell comes out to a $270 paycheck. You give it another week being encouraged by the owner that you just need to keep at it, you'll get better at the sell. The same result by the end of week 2, many hours on the sales floor and not a lot of money to show for it.
So eventually you come back to your senses and realize it is not as glamorous as pitched to you by the owners. You see, these relatively young owners of this company are in fact great salesman. They pitch you their company and the success that you can have in a few short months and the amount of money you will be making. You can't blame them completely, because when they speak of the success that you will have, they are simply speaking out of the experience and success they themselves have attained through being good salesman.
However, I can blame them for not paying me commission money owed to me after I announced that I was quitting. I had to call numerous times, requesting the money they owed me in a professional manner. I did not receive professionalism back, I felt like I was talking to a twelve year old in daddy's suit. Eventually they paid me only part of what was owed to me. It was the most unbelievable experience I have ever had with an employer. The owners are indeed good salesman, but I think they had to sell their souls in the process. DO NOT ACCEPT THIS JOB OFFER!

Just ask yourself one question, if the owner of a company is scanning the internet to find scam and ripoff reports, what does that say about that company?

I found the job a couple times during my job searching in the last couple of months. I didn't apply at first because of the distance it would be for me to go there. But i got desperate and finally sent in my resume. I got quick response and a phone call. I went the next day to this tacky little office where I was set up for a second interview, not being told that it would be at a different location then the main office.
My car died and a friend gave me a lift to the interview. Once there I was told I would be going to a Best Buy in another city. My friend had to go to work so I planned a bus trip home. I was driven to the Best Buy by the man who would be doing my interview and 'worked' the best buy. He seemed like a nice enough guy. The second interview was nothing more then fallowing this man around Best Buy as he tried to sell people direct TV. I made the comment I would need health insurance and he informed me that I'd be making enough money to buy my own. After the interview I decided the risk was not worth my time and never called them back.
I accidentally reapplied to them again today where the same happy email was sent my way. Thankfully I keep a copy of all of the emails I get from jobs and could avoid going through it again.

The guy "charliegrace" has no clue what he is talking about! I am the one who calls the people who apply.... to be more specific, I read all of the resumes that are emailed to me and call the people I think have potential. So I'll start with his numbered list and write a rebuttal to each thing that he listed.
1. The job looks to be posted all over other job sites because other job sites pull from reputable job sites. Do you really think that I spend my day posting ads all over the place? It has been hard for us to find the right people for the positions that we have open, so yes, we post frequently, but on ONE website (careerbuilder).
2. I NEVER call someone the same day that they apply. It is tacky and unprofessional. However, if you knew how much it costs to post an ad online, you would jump on the candidates too. The worst thing you can do is pay that much money for a posting, and then wait to call the candidates... we will waste our money if we wait and hear a response of "I already found a job." Time is of the essence! I try to call the day AFTER I receive the application.
3. Yes, each person in our company has a separate email account. You just happened to see one and ASSUMED that it was the only one for the company. You were contacted by a person (me) and that's the email address you got... do you think I'm going to hand out everyone's email address before you even come in for an interview???
4. Our firm is a grass-roots type of marketing firm. We go directly to the public. We don't use our website as a crutch... we simply have it there for general information. Face it, not every business has a website, and anyone who thinks so needs to think again.
5. Yes, you walk into our office and are given an application.... any business would do this. We asked for another copy of your resume because it is professional to have your resume in hand when you go to an interview. The copy we have is on the computer and we would like to see a hard copy in which the applicant is responsible for providing. This would happen with any company conducting interviews.
6. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Just because our office doesn't have plush furniture and expensive paintings on the walls doesn't mean that we are any less of a business. As a business owner, you decide where to concentrate your money. Just because you don't like how the office is decorated (or not decorated) doesn't mean the company is ireputable.
7. Yes, you did meet the owner of the company. Why does someone's laptop have to be in their office. Did you look and see if a laptop case was in his office? The laptop might not have been set up on his desk. A lot of people don't use desktop computers anymore... Myself included. If you didn't see a computer on his desk, he may simply not have wanted the distraction.
8. Our owner is young, but since when do we crucify a young man for having a business??? He started young and worked his way through the trenches and came out on top. I bet his mother is proud that he is young and owns a company!
9. As stated earlier, our business is a tough one. We require that you go on a second interview to shadow one of our employees. We want you to see exactly what we do before wasting time and paperwork putting you on the books and then after one week you saying that it wasn't cut out for you. One of our clients is SAM's Club... that is why we were there!
10. In business, sometimes things are unpredictible. Okay, so it was poor judgement for someone to call you at 9:30pm, but they were just doing their job. Something changed, and they called to inform you... that's the bottom line.

As for CharlieGrace.... I'm sorry you weren't cut out for our business, and I have a feeling that you are still unemployed.
