I saw the Caribbean Cruise Line Commercial with Carmen Electra on TV Oct. 7th. "Free 2 Day Cruise to the Bahamas for two" except for $118 in port fees. First 1000 registrants in your area gets the free cruise. I figured that was a good deal and Carmen Electra was a famous person so it couldn't be a scam, right? Not exactly. I registered and caibbeancruiseforfree.com and they told me to immediately call the phone number to complete my registration. So I did. The man told me that although I didn't have book my travel dates for 18 months, that I should pay the fees right then. I told him I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY AT THAT TIME. I said I got paid next friday and I could do it then. He said that this wasn't a problem and that he could take my card info and they would put it in their "Financial Records" or something like that. And that when I had the money they could process it then. He puts me on hold for a moment and then comes back with a really different tone of voice and says "I, don't know what you were worried about, Visa approved you for the charge, you're going on a cruise". I was shocked! He charged my card and overdrafted me, or worse, was going to make my rent check bounce! I immediately demanded that he put the money back but he REFUSED stating over and over again that he had verbal recorded confirmation of me agreeing to him processing my card. MANIPULATION. He made it sound like he would charge my card when I had the money, not RIGHT THEN! I specifically told him I didn't have the money! We got into an argument for about 15 minutes before he put me on hold... BUT I HEARD EVERYTHING HE SAID. He and his co-workers/superiors were LAUGHING AT ME! He eventually came back on the line and said I would get my money back by midnight but I never did. Telemarketers are SHARKS.

So you did read the rules!

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 29, 2010

I am sorry. You probably did read the rules. These sharks don't hang around waiting for the perfect time to attack. They debit your card right away as they have done to dozens of people who have written ROR with similar tales. I think that I would have put the guy on hold (if possible) and checked ROR or tell him to call back on Friday. They actually prefer to sell you a land package along with the 'free" cruise. It revolves around a morning or two wasted at a timeshare sales pitch. Next time save your money and take a regular cruise on one of the major cruise lines. The ship operated by CCL is a former North Sea overnight ferry. The other cruise ships are purpose built, are much larger, and offer many more amenities plus an extra day at a private island. Prices are very reasonable and sales occur all the time.

(6) "Offer for sale" means direct or indirect representation, claim, or statement or making an offer or undertaking, by any means or method, to arrange for, provide, or acquire travel reservations or accommodations, tickets for domestic or foreign travel by air, rail, ship, or other medium of transportation, or hotel and motel accommodations or sightseeing tours by a seller of travel who maintains a business location in Florida...

Read it and weep Anon. DO your research!

Once again as I have reported on other complaints where you left this erroneous information. CCL does fall under the FL Sellers of Vacation Act. ONCE AGAIN, CCL is not excluded nor are they above the Laws of the State of Florida. Quit pushing your misinformation! I don't know what BS your employer is feeding you, but you may want to do your research before you are caught up under charges of fraud.

fl travel sellers act

Failure to READ this legislation will make you look like an idiot.  It does not apply to CCL as they are both the seller and the provider.

Refund was received after 2 weeks

AUTHOR: cozimnot - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, May 07, 2010

To their credit, I did eventually receive a refund after a couple of weeks.

Karl, I did read the fine print, if you read my report you see in the beginning I was fully aware of the charges I would have to pay, but I specifically told them I couldn't pay it right then and there. I was mislead to believe that I was going to be charged a week later, NOT AT THAT MOMENT. Why don't you actually read my report before implying that I don't know to read fine print? I wasn't expecting anything for free. It was the fact that they took money from me after I clearly stated I didn't have the funds at that time and they over-drafted my checking account. I gave them my debit card information with the trust that I would be debited a week later as was stated. As far as refunds go, exceptions should always be made for mistakes on the merchant's end.

"You problem is not with the cruise line - it is because of your failure to read the small print."

Except for one little thing Karl, there is such a thing as the "Florida Sellers of Travel Act." Failure to read this act will result in people being ripped off.

Credit Card Companies Are Our Friends

AUTHOR: aerynlynne - (Canada)

POSTED: Monday, November 09, 2009

Okay, that may be hard to swallow, but in this case Visa maybe be the next best thing.

Some time has passed, but you may still be able to call them and dispute the charge made without your express consent.  Visa (and every other major credit card company) has a huge department that handles Security and Fraud reports and if you have a valid claim, they will go to bat for you.

I'm not saying that they can definitely get your money back for you, but seeing as credit card fraud is one of the most common crimes, it is worth the shot to call them.

Another good thing about calling your credit card company is that if they receive enough complaints about one of their clients (which Caribbean Cruise Line has to be in order for them to collect payment through Visa), then they will investigate that client to determine whether or not they should still be conducting business.

If Caribbean Cruise Line can no longer accept Visa because of too many fraud reports, that could save a lot of Visa customers some grief.

READ THE RESTRICTIONS NEXT TIME

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, October 31, 2009

On the "free" website there is a whole half page of restrictions for the 'free" cruise including the fact that everything is non-refundable. Next time read the restrictions for this sort of thing. You don't get anything free. You problem is not with the cruise line - it is because of your failure to read the small print. Who cares about Carmen Electra whoever she is. These people are paid for endorsements.
