In January 2009, I noticed that on my Visa bill I was twice charged for Privilege Pass $14.95. I did not know who they were and so I called them and they said I had signed up for Privilege Pass through Spiegel. I have no knowledge of ever signing up for Privilege Pass. I never signed up online, over the phone or by mail. No proof has been provided to me that I actually did. I absolutely have not received ANY product or service for being charged $14.95 twice in a month! Spiegel/ Privilege Pass has been doing this to me since August 2008.

I have written to both Spiegel and Privilege Pass and have demanded to be FULLY reimbursed for the several months I have been charged unknowingly. It is deplorable to me that a company that I have given over 20 year of business to has abused my patronage and trust.

After researching this matter it has come to my attention that I am not alone in Spiegel's scam. Spiegel is using fraudulent tactics to sign patrons up unknowing and charge their credit cards for bogus
products/services.

I will be disputing these charges with Visa and have already taken action to retrieve the money that was stolen from me. But more than myself I want to warn others and I want Spiegel to stop this horrific tactic. Spiegel and Privilege Pass should be severely punished and will do all I can. relentlessly!

Please let me know what other recourses I can take if Spiegel is uncooperative. Also please forward this link to everyone you know especially if they use Spiegel, Newport News or buy online. Don't let this happen to you and DON'T let Spiegel get away with this. Pass this on to all on you email list and have them do the same.

Spiegel And Privilege Pass

AUTHOR: Rebecca messner - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 20, 2009

UPDATE: Spiegel has answered my questions in a courteous manner. And though I just can't recall doing so, it appears I made a mistake by authorizing something I did not want and was charged.

However, Spiegel in an expression of goodwill will be giving me 2 credits in the amount of $14.95. I appreciate this! Spiegel said they would process these credits today to my account. When they do so I will also post it.

Dear Laurie,

Thanks for the information! I did not know about the Today Show and will Google it. However, I never take online surveys or any discounts offers because I know about the hassles involved. I have been ordering the same way online for years and have never had a problem till now. Spiegel needs to tell me when this happened, provide me proof and simply reply to my emails. So far Spiegel has not done so. If I thought I goofed I would learn my lesson and continue doing business with them. When I called Privilege Pass they said they sent me (by mail) an application and when I told them I never signed anything they never questioned it and quickly said they would take me off. Also, Spiegel and Privilege Pass did not give me anything for $14.95 (charged twice in one month) on my Visa. I have ask Spiegel to tell me what, supposedly, did I get. All Spiegel needs to do is answer my questions.

But indeed I have learned to be even more careful ordering online and to scrutinize my Visa and stop wrongful payments immediately.

Go back and read the disclosures you did not read the last time

AUTHOR: Laurie - (U.S.A.)

You either completed a survey or took $$ off your current internet order.

both fully disclose that taking the survey or taking the $$ off offers you are signing up for a trial period for this membership program and if you do not cancel you will be charged.

No fraud here -just failure to read the information provided

The Today show did a piece on this back in August, based on viewer complaints.
They went to the same websites and found that everyone who claimed FRAUD - just never BOTHERED TO READ the info that was posted on the websites that CLEARLY stated what would happen.

I shop online a lot myself and have managed to avoid these membership programs by not completing the survey or taking the $$ off offers. When I print out my onscreen receipts I write on them - DID NOT TAKE SURVEY or $$ Offers as back up in case they show up anyway and it has never happened.
