Look out ladies, Walter R. McDuffie is back on the internet looking for companionship!! He's 45 years old now, lives in Macon, Georgia, claims to be a nuclear health physicist working for the federal government and an art director/graphic designer in his "free time." He's extremely well-spoken and had me convinced that he comes from a well-to-do background, is very secure in life and was there to sweep me off my feet! Believe me when I tell you that this man can tell some terrific stories! They will seem a little too good to be true, but he'll convince you that they are as true as the day is long. And he has his shtick down -- it's dififcult to trip him up. From outward appearances, however, this man has little more than the clothes on his back. I ran a background check on him, too, and a lot of stuff didn't add up.

When the red flags made me start to pull back, he was suddenly diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer and was given a very short time to live. He outdid himself with that story -- nothing about it made any sense at all. And in person, he showed no signs of illness whatsoever -- despite telling me that he had only weeks to live. I bailed out before I could see how he was going to get out of that lie, but I'm sure he has since made a miraculous recovery. He has two blogs on the internet (that I know of), and those seem to be alive and well -- so it appears he is, too!

Ladies, this guy is really smart and will tell you exactly what you want/need to hear. I found reports about him from other women on this website. It sounds like he used to pose as a naval officer to impress the ladies and ultimately tried to scam these women for money. Also found some news articles from 2006 that a Walter Richard McDuffie was arrested in 2006 in Hart County, Georgia for impersonating a naval officer and for the unauthorized practice of law. Walter didn't take me for money, but after "being diagnosed with cancer", he did suggest that he could move in with me -- you know, so I could be there for him during his "illness".

It looks like Walter has used the middle names Richard and Ryan in the past, and told me that it's Robert. A backgound check indicates that it's likely Richard. He currently lives in a tiny, run down apartment in Macon and claims to be on medical leave from his job with the federal government. Prior to being "diagnosed with cancer," he was telling me that he planned to move to Atlanta in early 2009 to take a new job -- still as a nuclear physicist, though. (In addition to his supposed journalism degree from UGA, he supposedly has a masters in physics from MIT-- even has UGA and MIT class rings -- but we couldn't find him in the MIT alumni directory.) I certainly don't know exactly who this guy really is, but we've done quite a bit of investigative work and he spends an extraordinary amount of time on the internet -- posing as different people. I met him on the internet as "Nucleardawg", but he could be out there as just about anyone. He also holds himself out to be an "award-winning" graphic designer and the owner of "Tomato Creative," a supposed graphic design studio and advertising agency in Macon. Oh, and he recently turned down a faculty position at Mercer University -- which is something that just fell into his lap. Mercer just called him out of the blue and offered him a faculty position! Well, it did have something to do with Walter's cousin, Robert McDuffie, after whom the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer is named. Don't worry -- Robert McDuffie at Mercer exists -- just don't know how -- if at all -- Walter is really related to him. The stories just go on and on.... I've got a million of 'em.

If you stumble across this character, be careful. He'll take you for a ride if you let him! He didn't get to my pocketbook, but he certainly left a lasting impression on me in many other ways!

Walter McDuffie is a Professional Con Artist!

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 31, 2008

Every word of this report is the truth. Walter has had me fooled for months. We met online and he had me swept away by his sweet words and his intelligence. Little did I know that he was a mental patient and a con artist.

At the beginning, he seemed a little too good to be true, but he didn't ask anything from me he was just kind and charming. He must have found a new mark for his game (whom I think is the original poster of this report) because I stopped hearing from him for awhile. Then suddenly he resurfaced with metastatic Stage IV pancreatic cancer! I was taken aback by this and immediately suspicious. It turns out that, after some discussion, I found that he contacted me once the woman who posted this article got wise to him. He moves pretty fast! He had quite a story to go along with what had happened to him. He had moved out of his high-rise apartment and into a house with a woman who was a nurse and who, out of the kindness of her heart agreed to care for him until his untimely passing. But then he was appalled that this kindly woman wanted rent from him and required a lease (whether or not he actually lived in this house or not I have no idea). He was calling me all hours of the day and night asking for help, a place to stay, even though I live 600 miles away! He wanted me to fly down to Atlanta and pick him up and we would drive back to my home in his car. He was planning to leave behind all his worldly possessions in this house because, as he said, "she would steal them from me anyway."

He went so far as to call me in the middle of the night and tell me he was ending his life, the cancer pain had become so severe and he just couldn't go on. He said he carried potassium pills with him in case he decided he just couldn't deal with it anymore. This is a sick, sick person that would potentially put another person through that kind of emotional hell. Fortunately, I was suspicious of him all along, even though I played along to see where it all went. I also reported him to authorities and decided to just let him keep going with his con and see if he hung himself with his own rope.

In fact he did when, while an inpatient at a local mental health facility, he declared himself cancer free and in remission! From Stage IV metastatic cancer of the pancreas, which had supposedly spread to the lungs, kidney, bones and lymph nodes. Remission! Oh, he exclaimed, it was the power of prayer! I couldn't hold it in any longer and declared his whole act bullshit.

The person who posted the reply to the original report has missed the point entirely when he says that Walter never hurt anyone. Walter is an emotional mess and he drags everyone around him through the dirt. In addition, if I or the woman who posted this report had been less astute, we would have becomce financial victims of his con. He was ready to move in with me! He admitted to me (for what that's worth) that he indeed did not have cancer and that he had "problems with reality" although from where I sit, regardless of his mental state, his contact with reality seems just fine. He was able to play me for a fool for almost six months before I figured out his game. If he hadn't gone so over the edge with the cancer, who knows how long it would have gone on?

I wish I could contact the person who filed this because we certainly would have a lot to talk about, and maybe even a good laugh eventually. But women need to be on the look out for this kind of con artist, intelligent, good looking, charming and who says everything you want to hear. His contact with reality is better than most sane people I know; he is extremely talented at what he does and there are many willing victims out there who could fall prey to this kind of person.

From what I can tell, he is now out of the hospital. I have no idea where he will go or what he'll do next. But according to Walter himself, he's got three racing bikes, two horses and property out in the country. Not to mention science books (to support his nuclear physicist career) and lots of gorgeous furniture...not that he cares about material possessions, as he says, he just likes nice things.

In any case, I could go on and on about this character. I'm just lucky that I didn't end up being his victim. Who knows what he will move on to next!

Let me see..he did not rip you off for money or possessions. He spoke nice to you and did not mistreat you.

Hmmmm other than asking you for a place to stay, I cannot see what he did that deserves this type of defamation Lying is done on all dates, I have heard women tell lies much worse than that just to get money from men.

I think you are just another woman scorned. "Hell hath no fury" babe.
