I had applied for and recieved a Blair credit card from this company. First let me say that Blair is in no way responsible for the card issuer, World Financial Capital Bank is the credit grantor.
The very first problem with the credit grantor was that I never recieved my first statement so my first payment was late. The day after the first payment was due I recieved around 15 phone calls from the collections department of World Financial Capital Bank. It only took the first call from them telling me that my account was past due for me to pay but yet they continued to call-they stated that the reason I didn't recieve a bill was that they had signed me up for online statements(would have been very nice had they informed me of their decision to not send a paper statement so that I could pay what they were due).
The next payment I paid everything in full and haven't made another purchase since. I recieved a letter in the mail August 20, 2007 stating that they were cancelling my card. After recieving their letter in the mail quite naturally I wanted to know why and called their Customer Service Department, which, I might add, is sadly lacking any semblence of customer service, common courtesy, and business etiquette. The letter stated that they will be "happy to assist me" but that couldn't be farther from the truth.
When I explained to them that I had recieved a letter the lady went into a little speach about the company being "unwilling" to continue to finance "certain individuals" and that there was nothing she could do. So I asked to speak to a supervisor, wondering to myself what does "certain individuals" mean exactly and how am I one of them (their wording sounded so unsavory).
Well I got through to her supervisor which, unfortunately, was even more inconsiderate than the representative I had originally spoken with. The supervisor then informed me that basically unless my credit score was above 650 (or I had high income) they no longer wanted me as a customer. They then informed me that they had also cancelled over 30,000 other individuals accounts at the same time and why am I any different than them. I'm not sure what my credit score is at this time but I do know that I have several excellent lines of credit with reputable banks who are more than happy to extend me credit.
They then informed me that their decision was final and that they did not care if all the people whose accounts were cancelled complained, they are a multi-billion dollar corporation with around 100 million credit accounts. She said that 30,000 upset individuals was very insignificant to a company of their size and that basically they could care less. I thanked her although I'm not sure why, given the fact that she had insinuated that I was "low income", "poor credit risk", insignificant, and ignorant.
I guess I was polite to her because I was raised to be polite, and to practice good etiquette always. My parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all have businesses of their own;and never have I heard them speak to someone the way the representatives of this company spoke to me.
I believe the company needs to realize that these "representatives" do in fact respresent the face of their company, the only face their customers see. What a shameful business practice if they actually endorse their people to speak in such a way. I will go out of my way in the future to not do business with this company again ever!
