University of Phoenix: Pay $7500 tuition, GET NOTHING! It's all about them making money. It has nothing to do with educating people. The level of curriculum is lame as well as much of the student body. MPLS Minnesota

After having spent 6 months and $7500 in tuition, working full time and attending the "college for working adults", I came under an enormous amount of stress with the algebra class. The online program with which we are to submit assignments and quizzes aka "ALEKS" had been giving me many problems which I reported steadily and in a detailed fashion, such as not accepting my answer to a problem and when I would ask the program for the answer it would be IDENTICAL to my answer. This would prohibit me from advancing through the assignment and saying I have to continue trying to learn this particular math function, wasting much time and causing much frustration.
I was literally on this program for 4 to 6 hour stretches to get through assignments. I am not an idiot. Subsequently the stress and hours I was putting in exascerbated a cold I had contracted to the point of bronchial pneumonia. I could not get the assignment in on time, which I was always very adamant about doing. The instructor would be overseas in Amsterdam or India and could not be reached for many days at a time when there were questions to be answered. Hey, I thought they had the internet there too. When I could reach the instructor, I was told to "contact tech support". I did just that several times and nobody could help me. I got a B+ in Algebra 1 under these conditions and failed in Algebra 2 because of my illness.
I was given an amount of time to make up the remaining assignments, requiring that I use the ALEKS program to do so. I could not log on to that program because my student code had apparently expired for the entire time that was given for me to make-up, again being told to "contact tech support". I was calling everybody who was supposed to be there to help me and nobody could or would. I then was supposed to take two 50 point quizzes on ALEKS and a classroom final. I could not have received the grade I actually earned with 100 points missing from my grade so I did not attend the final. The school deemed this to somehow be my fault and failed me. My GPA up to that point was 3.25 and it was the first time in my life that I had ever failed a class or anything else. I talked to all the top representatives at the campus and they did not care.
The real travesty here is that after I disputed why I should owe anything for this s**t excuse for a class they said I would not have to pay for it, but billed me anyway. Now UoP claims I owe them $1200 for this garbage and are holding my transcripts hostage that I have paid $7500 dollars for. It is my understanding now that the actual transcripts are of very little value anyway because other schools DO NOT RECOGNIZE the classes and can't apply them to the standard required curriculum.
University of Phoenix is a joke. It's all about them making money. It has nothing to do with educating people. The level of curriculum is lame as well as much of the student body. It is a fall out for people who want to claim they have a degree and it's hard to believe that the Federal Government supports them by allowing student loan money to be paid to such an institution. I have never felt so ripped off in my life. The school I now attend feels worthy of my efforts, I feel that there is a solid foundation and my questions get attention. I am pursuing a BS in information technology.
