I've read the reports for this piece of junk online and it looks like some of you actually like it. Congrats to you. I can only report the experience I've had with it and hope it helps others.
Sure, we were lured into buying this by the cheap price. Who wouldn't want to save money on something that should be dirt cheap? But let me tell you, we almost immediately regreted this decision. First of all, we couldn't get a phone number in our area code. Since we were new to the area and looking for jobs, this was a major inconvenience. Second, we had SEVERAL problems with the system itself. At times, our calls wouldn't go through. Other times, the person on the other end either couldn't hear us or we couldn't hear them (dead air). If we were lucky enough to actually connect with someone (which didn't happen often), the calls were incredibly choppy. Having a conversation was almost impossible. Third, when people called us, we couldn't answer it. We would get nothing but static.
We thought it was our computer (it's old) and got a new one. We thought this would fix the problem. NOT! Actually, it got worse, if this is possible. We lost the caller ID display and the call log didn't always function properly. Therefore, not only were we not able to answer the calls, we couldn't even call the person back because we didn't know who called!
Finally, on the extremely rare occasion we were able to have a decent conversation, everyone had to stay off the computer. Using the computer interfered with the already poor quality of sound.
I've used Vonage and Charter and never experienced these problems. In fact, I'm going back to Charter tomorrow. The only reason I've waited this long is because I couldn't get the cable guy in here faster!
Do yourself a favor and pay the extra money. You truly get what you pay for!

Actually, no, you can't always get a local area code. I realize MOST people do, but that does not mean everyone does. Second, I have known other people that have had the same problems I experienced. As I said, I can only relate MY experience with this junk. I would NEVER recommend it to anyone. If you enjoy it, good for you. I happen to think it's crap. Finally, if you want people to take you seriously, perhaps you should learn some basic punctuation. Educated people tend to disregard the opinions of those with poor punctuation and grammar. Sorry, sad but true.
