First of all I must say I have a Felony On my criminal record and I was aware of an apparent rule of most all states that states you cannot work in any law enforcement division with a felony. I got this felony over 20 years ago and here is where the dilema came about.

I decided in 2002 that minumum wage was really starting to suck so I decided to go to college. I realized that there are mostly young individuals that attend college in person and that there was another option that I could attend college online. I made the mistake of calling Kaplan college first and when the advisor asked me what i would like to do as a career I told her I would really love to be a police officer however I have a felony and that looks like it will hinder me from doing so.

This advisor told me that because my felony was over 10 years old it should not hinder me at all and to not mention it on any applications because it will not show up. I had no other info to go by but her word and so I signed up and don't you know it throughout my schooling I asked several times from my instructors (whom where supposingly in law enforcement) if my felony would hinder me and they all pretty much said the same thing as this advisor, they each had different years but they all made me feel safe in completing my schooling.

So I did, and I must say I passed more than 1/2 of my classes when I really should not have and failed some when I should not have. I feel this is because they actually do not have certified teachers they basically have anyone that wants to teach, teaching.

well to make a long story short after 3 years and $30,000 later I CANNOT get a job in Law Enforcement I called the school and was instructed to try and get my record Esponged which I did and that did nothing for me, again I was instructed to apply in different states, Which I did that did nothing for me. SO after getting the d**n run around I sent a letter/complaint into Kaplan asking them to advise me as to why there personel mislead me into believing that I could do the impossible. Then I asked them to allow me to Attend there college for free in a degree program that I CAN ACtually utilize so that I can afford to pay the Government there $30,000 that they want. I was told Sorry you have no proof that our advisors told you anything and Good Luck.

I feel that this so called college is a d**n rip off and I am surprised to see how easy it must be for a organization to be able to call themselves a college and get funding assistance from the Government. This was a very expensive learning experience.
