We (my 11 year-old son and I) went to an 'audition' for A.C.T. last Sunday night (7/20) in Providence which was supposed to include two parts: an interview and a live read in front of the camera. We also had paperwork to fill out as to why my son wanted to become an actor. It seemed believable at first: there was a so-called famous Hollywood agent there: Jimmy Villareal and this supposed National Director for A.C.T., Michael Worth.

After the 'audition,' we were given a brochure, along with a piece of paper that told us we needed to call back on Tuesday to see if our children had been chosen but that it was a very slight possibililty and not to be disappointed if they weren't. I called back on Tuesday as instructed and wow, what a surprise, my son was chosen for the program but I had to go back later on that afternoon to sign him up for classes. Here was the catch: I signed him up for two classes since that's what i was pressured into and $2900 later here i am.

I knew something didn't feel right about this so i continued to investigate as much as i could on the internet and i have read nothing positive. i also tried to verify that these classes even exist and come to find out the location where they are supposed to be held had no idea what i was even talking about.

Since my mom's credit card was the one used in this transaction, she has since tried to cancel it with her credit card compnay but they said there is nothing they can do unless A.C.T. does something on their end. We have sent the certifed letter as instructed but as I have also seen elsewhere I am afraid that this will be useless. We have also contacted our local FBI. If anyone else out there can help, please let me know what else we can do???

Tomorrow, we will be going to the local police department as well to file charges with them too. We just don't want to see this happen to anyone else!

The worst part in this whole thing is how my son feels, never mind how stupid I feel!

Exact Same Thing Happened to Us in Cleveland, OH

I also had my daughter audition for ACT on the same date (7/20) in Cleveland, OH, which later on we found out that there were only bad things written about this place. We emailed a certified letter of cancellation as the contract stated in between three days prior to signing, but we still do not know if we will get our $4,400 back. I was thinking of calling the Iteam from Fox 8 to investigate and to let others know what is going on. If you are able to call your Local Fox and see if they like this as a news report, we can make a difference. It is a good idea that you went to the FBI and Local Police, maybe we will try that tomorrow... please post and keep me updated on how things work out. If we have enough people to help us we can stop this scam. Let's take action before it is really too late!

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS.

I'm so glad I found this website and these postings.

I almost convinced my mom to take me to the audtions in Rhode Island.
I thought it sounded fake, but i really didnt think it could do any harm to go and check it out.

I heard the ad on the radio, and I really thought it was suspicious, but I figured if it was on the radio, then it must be real. My mom called them, and they didn't even tell her where the place was. They called me three times today to confirm my audtion. I called them back and asked them if I could ask them a few questions about it, and they transfered me to someones voice mailbox.

After, I went online to research this bs and I found nothing.

Thank you so much for posting about this, because now I know it would have been a huge mistake to go there.

I really hope that you both get your money back.
Whoever is behind all this, should go to jail.

Thanks!
-Justina

Thank you for your report. My daughter and I went to the audition on Sunday, 07/27/08. I also was told my daughter was accepted. I could not afford the cost and they told me to try again in six months. In the meantime I decided to try and do a background check on this company. I started with the Better Business Bureau for the address that is listed on their brochure (AZ). I hope this helps. If you type in Better Busines Bureau, you then can choose the state and type in the company name.

success stories

here are what other parents have said:

'We would like to thank the ACT for the wonderful experience Victoria Cosner has had. She had an audition with Jimmy Villareal at your school and was invited to Jimmy's office in Beverly Hills, CA. While in Jimmy's office she was introduced to her current Manager, Robert Costanzo and was asked to come back to California to audition for several agents. She is now going to be working with ACME and Tag Models. We are in the process of moving to California so Victoria can be there for pilot season and to continue her career. She is very excited for this continued journey.

Thank you ACT for this wonderful opportunity.'
--Melissa and Dale Cosner(mom and dad)

'Kendall Park has extended Alejandra the offer to work for JLA Agency in Los Angeles. My daughter is very excited about the offer and grateful for all the support she has received from ACT, Now we have to work out all the details for her to go to LA and start her dream. Thank you for making her dream come true.'
-- Juan Ruiz

'My daughter Anna began taking classes at ACT less than two months ago. Within couple of weeks, we were visiting Los Angeles to meet with Anna's new manager. Since then, she has also received callbacks from two casting directors that she met through ACT. This past week, Anna went to LA to meet with an agent and audition for a leading role in a very exciting project (the details of which we unfortunately are not allowed to share). Shortly thereafter, we learned that Anna got the part, and she spent the weekend in LA on the set filming. In a nutshell, the last eight weeks have been a little girl's dream come true. We don't know what the future may hold, but our bags are already packed for our next exciting adventure! Thanks again.'
--Kim Clark (Mom)

'Ashley Wolff has been a student at ACT since January 2008, we can't believe how far she has come in just eight weeks! We can tell a big difference in her auditioning skills from when she first started, and her confidence level has greatly improved. Ashley recently signed an exclusive contract with S.I.M. Agency in their modeling/print division, she is very excited and can't wait to see where it takes her!'
--Dustin and Stephanie Wolff

'First of all - thanks for setting up the opportunity for Matt and the rest of the kids to be able to audition for Mr. Kaplan. Even if Matt hadn't gotten a callback it would have been a great experience for him."
-- Heather Crawford, mother to Matt Crawford

“Thanks for having me come aboard as one of your teachers! The kids were fun, intelligent & talented...far surpassing my expectations. Looking forward to next month."
-- Jerry Perna, Philadelphia Acting Teacher

"Thank you for the email telling us of Larry's response to the ACT audition. Our daughter, Kaitlyn Leigh Bartlett, is pursuing training and auditioning. She had the opportunity to be an extra in one of the films Lacee Reed (a local film director) as well. Lacee met Kaitlyn at the ACT audition and came very close to casting her. We're so grateful to you for starting Kaitlyn on this path. She's loving every opportunity. Also, I just wanted to share what's been up with Katie. She got the part of Amaryllis in a community theater production of the Music Man. The theater company is called Northwest Savoyards Theater and the performances will be from May 30-June 15, Fri. and Sat. nights and Sun matinee. We are so excited! Thanks again for everything."
-- Virginia Bartlett, mother to Kaitlyn Leigh Bartlett

I have suspicions too!

I just read your post. Thanks for sharing that. We just went to their so called 'audition' in Atlanta and I was very disturbed about it. My kids were crushed too. They wanted people to sign up for the expensive classes. Please see my report just filed.

Thank You
