Los Angeles, CaliforniaThis company is a complete fraud. I contacted this company in 2003 because I needed legal assistance regarding an employment / worker's comp issue.
I signed up for membership and began paying $26/month. They referred me to an Attorney Ronald M. Canter. This man is one of the most unprofessional & unethical individuals employed as a lawyer. Not only did he sit on my case, he referred me to a completely corrupt doctor who attempted to bribe me twice after a failed attempt to falsify my medical records as well as misdiagnose me on purpose. The Lawyer never returned correspondence unless I called to complain to Pre Paid Legal. When he had himself removed from the case because he could see that I was not a sucker for his game, I was referred to another Firm - The Same occured like its written as a script.
Here's how they operate the scam together: The attorneys in the beginning will act as if they are gung ho about repping for you- but will shortly stop returning all correspondence knowing that you will be or will eventually get upset. When you finally call Prepaid Legal to complain or to have them call you, the referral attorney will say that you threatened them or their assistants and Pre Paid Legal will side with them and the attorney will DROP YOU AS A CLIENT. This happened to me with both attorneys and Pre Paid Legal will take the stand of not being responsible for the actions of the attorneys they have referred to you but continue to collect monthly dues from you. No Refunds on what you've paid for thus far- but they will happily refer you to another attorney so that you can have the pleasure of experiencing the same thing again. The issues you have with the attorneys must be taken up with the State Bar (which most people just wont do because it is very time consuming to put together the facts and timeline of what the attorney did and did not do.) If you're on the phone long enough with a customer service rep they'll transfer you to a person named 'Danette' who will ramble on about the benifits of your pre paid legal membership- with a bunch of fake ' I understand your position' comments. Hearing this is pointless because you cant get your lawyer on the phone in the first place! She will emphasize that pre-paid is 'not responsible' for the actions of the attorney and she/ they will talk you in circles until you finally get frustrated enough to get off the phone. They dont help you at all but hurt you alot. My case is almost 5 years long and this company has played me with their games and their fake attorneys that will sabotage your case and your life.

Your story has more holes in it than Swiss Cheese
First off, its been 4 years so I'm not sure why are you still whining over this issue. But I have read your comment and its not making much sense
1. Why would one of our provider attorneys or a doctor need to bribe you for??? All of the provider firms are paid by Pre-Paid Legal Services....not you. That's the whole purpose of having PPL to begin with...so you don't have to.
2. You say that the attorney stepped down from your case but then you stated that he told the main office that you made a threat against him. If that was the case, then obviously he would have dropped you.
3. You complained about a doctor checking you out but its a worker's comp case. Well, they are suppose to check you out and again, I cannot see the purpose of a bribe for the doctor.
Regardless of your complaints, if you don't like the service then you can cancel anytime and go get your own attorney which is something you haven't done because your whining about the case being 5 years old. Its problably because you don't have the money for one.
Your best bet is to forget about your workers comp case and move on with your life

The PPL attorneys in Illinois are fantastic and have saved me hundreds of dollars.
I cannot vouch for the Oklahoma attorneys, but this case sounds like a script from a book and very suspicious. If everything described really happened to this person, it would be pretty easy to prove it, wouldn't it?
I am an employee AND a subscriber to PPL and love it. Even if I was not an employee, I would continue to be a member. Here is what PPL has done for me so far, and the money they've saved me:
1) Writing a Will (Money Saved: $1000-note they do your will for FREE with membrsp)
2) Wrote a letter to stop collectors for bills I paid long ago from ruining my credit and allowed me to qualify for a lower mortgage rate. Money Saved: thousands
3) Wrote a letter to obtain money back from a car repair shop that ruined my oilpan during simple oil change. Money Saved: $700
PPL will also go to court if you get a traffic ticket at no extra cost, and do so much more. I feel that based on my experience and that of many others, that there is no basis for the ridiculous comments from this person.

I don't agree with you
Prepaid legal referred me to Diane Berlin on a injury at work. Both she and the other attorney Vanessa Henderson were polite and treated me with respect. I liked them. They sent me to doctors and never charged me a dime.
I asked them about money and they told me not to worry. they don't get paid until the case is done then they get a percentage of the final amount i got. they were worth it. what you say makes no sense to me.
You Created Your Own Problem, Not Pre-Paid Legal
I am sorry you had a bad experience, but if your case is 5 years old, how come it took you this long to file a complaint?
If you were not satisfied with the attorney service, why did you not complain to PPL? If you say you did, I don't believe you because when you do complain of poor service, you are immediately replaced with a new attorney with no charge if applicable. Either way, you are cared for with your case by whatever new firm you are assigned with ppl. We are legal brokers, not a legal firm. We cannot provide any law advice except connect you with a network of attorneys that we hare reviewed and rated top quality. And considering that these attorneys are paid handsomely by us, this results in NO FAKE ATTORNEYS because they are already paid very well, and don't need to try to 'scam' you for money.
And we 'ramble' because we try to make sure you understand your membership before you quit for no reason. The lady was simply doing her job on trying to keep you on board.
Second I encourage you to next time take responsibility for your own actions. Therefore, this is not a rip off report, this is simply an falsified opinionated claim with no evidence and no real back story. You are mad because you didn't bother to take responsibility for yourself and take the time to understand any legalities and the membership itself.
I wish you the best luck in the future.

No $26 dollar a month prepaid legal plan could realistically help you with a complex worker's comp case....
