I submitted original copyrighted material to Tyler Music Group in Mar. 2010. for review.  Producer Will Smith of Tyler Music Group contacted me in Aug.of 2010 saying that he wanted to produce my music at a cost to me. I refused.  He then offered to 'master' the original recordings that I had already produced at Rainwerks Studios in Colorado Springs. The material was originally recorded in Sept. 2002. He offered via signed contract that he would 'master' my recordings and 'shop' them to major record labels in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta for the total price of $1,000.00.

The Agreement stated that a deposit of $750.00 be wired to Tyler Music along with the original recordings on DTRS(digital tapes)He would then 'master' the recordings to bring them up to music industry standards and have the songs be ready 'radio ready.' Upon completion of the mastering process, Will Smith would mail to me the finished product on CDR or 'master disc.'   Since I am the copyright owner of the material and also the producer and performer on the recordings, the 'master disc' would have to meet my approval. If I approved of the mastering service he provided, I would then send the remaining balance of $250.00 to Tyler Music Group. Will Smith told me that the process, once he received the deposit and original tapes would take 10 to 14 days.  The contract was signed and sent to Tyler Music Group Sept. 1st along with my intellectul property(recordings) and $750.00 was wired from PSE Credit Union in Strongsville, Ohio.  Since Tyler Music Group (Producer Will Smith) received my property and my deposit, they have not performed the 'mastering' service and will not return my phone calls or emails. I was promised via contract and phone conversation that I would have a finished product in about 14 days. After 45 days, my patience had run out and I emailed and phoned them to politely let them know. The next day I received a text message from Producer Will Smith berading me and my material and said that the contract was void and that he'd be sending my deposit of $750.00 and my intellectual property(tapes) back to me. It has been 15 days since this conversation and I still have not been refunded my money or property. This is not only hurting me financially but is hampering my career because I have no access to my own copyrighted material. I have been cheated financially and stolen from creatively and I would like to see the issue be resolved.

Confusing, Sloppy, Incorrect and Potentially Harmful...

AUTHOR: Catherine - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, July 09, 2015

To the Site Administrator: While doing some quick online searching, I stumbled across an odd Google result referencing "Michael Joyce" and, following the link to ripoffreport.com, was directed to the angry, rambling complaints of "Mike" about the alleged wrongdoings of "Will Smith," the amoral "owner of Tyler Studios". As fascinating as this might be, I was far more intrigued by the absence of any reference to a connection between the evil Smith and  Michael Joyce--and was completely mystified as to why Michael Joyce's  name is mysteriously and prominently emblazened across the top of two identical follow-up postings labeled "Employee #2" and "Employee #3."

Unfortunately, it's just this kind of vague and misplaced clumping together of random negative commentary and the prominent display of a brand or name that will serve to attach unflattering and unsavory associations to the brand or name and materially diminish its reputation within its industry.

In the real world, Michael Joyce is a very talented and highly respected songwriter and career bass player, having recorded and performed with a long list of legendary artists, including Roy Orbison, John Hiatt, Roger Miller, Vince Gill, Rosanne Cash, Hank Williams, Jr., Brenda Lee, Tanya Tucker and Jo El Sonnier.

Currently touring with both Delbert McClinton and Gary Nicholson p/k/a Whitey Johnson, Michael plays a packed schedule of prestige dates, including Birchmere, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, Hartford's Infinity Hall, The Variety in Atlanta, Gruene Hall in Texas, The Greeley Blues Jam in Colorado, BB King's in NYC, Mobile's Saenger Theatre, the International Blues Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland, and a week of shows cruising the Caribbean.

When not on the road, Michael divides his time between demo and master sessions for various Nashville production houses and writing for and/or producing his own projects, often in collaboration with developing artists. As well, Michael's songs, many of which contain his distinctive and often heartwrenching signature melodies, have been recorded on numerous records and by artists both in and outside the United States.

Because I know Michael Joyce and we've often worked together, I'm sure that he, in his capacity as a professional musican, writer and producer, has nothing to do with the alleged wrongdoings of Will Smith and Tyler Studios. Folks that haven't known him for 30 years might not know this, however, and they would wonder what his relationship is to the villians of the piece and try and figure it out.

Even after spending a full 30 minutes studying the confusing mess, I came up with no less than three possible interpretations of Michael's imaginary relationship to the drama played out in the written comments: (i) someone called Michael Joyce is the disreputable employee of the disreputable company,Tyler Studios, assisting the evil Will Smith in his dastardly plan to defraud "Mike", an unsuspecting artist from Ohio; (ii) Michelle, an unsuspecting young artist paying to record an album at Tyler Studios, has been intentionally saddled with the producing services of a talentless and out-of-touch oaf called Michael Joyce by evil studio owner Will Smith; or (iii) Tyler Studios employee, Michelle, is defending the worthy and honest efforts of producer, Will Smith, against the defamatory and baseless comments posted on ripoffreport.com by a clueless Ohio bumpkin/"older rock singer" called Michael Joyce.

At the end of the day, however, it really doesn't matter which, if any, of those interpretations are actually true. A majority of musical professionals, when seeing any reference to "Michael Joyce"  in the context of a discussion of music industry activities, particularly if those activitities take place in Nashville, will assume there's a connection between Michael and the substance of the discussion. This creates a liklihood that Michael will be harmed if the comments are untrue and substantlally negative. Further, anyone that doesn't know much of anything about the music industry or Michael Joyce, but looks him up on Google, Facebook or Linkedin, will make broad superficial assumptions and also assume that "he's" the Michael Joyce referred to on the site.

For these reasons, the site administrator is respectfully requested to remove the confusing uses of Michael Joyce's name from site, particularly where it appears as a title or when both first and last name appear together in proximity to editorial comments. Thank you.

This is a fantasy.  Michael Joyce is an older rock singer that one of our Produces took pity on and for a very low price was going to get an engineer to remix his project that was mixed badly.  Unfortunately, the format that he cut it in in 1863 was not compatible with any of the current stuff and we could not even hook it up to one of those Google machines with the internet feature.  So he became annoyed by this and his chance for stardom and we repaid Michael Joyce in full and sent back his tapes in an overnight fed ex package that was signed for.

If anyone would like to see the canceled checks or the air bill, please contact our office at 615.340.9326.

Thank you
