REAL Construction R.E.A.L. Construction, Raul Luna R.E.A.L Roof Disaster Edinburg, Texas

I am an active duty soldier with a family who was put in situation in which I had to make a quick decision when purchasing a home. We found our current home in a good neighborhood and within our price range. The seller was also in hurry to sell and reduced the price for us which was a blessing for us. During the middle of the contract, there was a major hail strom in our area. The seller quickly filed a claim and hired a "roofer" to replace the roof and assured me he was legit.

After buying the home in McAllen, I was doing some remodeling and went in the attic only to find that the "roofer" the seller had hired, (REAL Construction) had actually shingled over the ridge vent openings then replaced the vents on top. I called him and made an appointment to fix the problem.

Mr. Luna assured me that will fix it as the roof as it has a two year warranty.

Mr Luna didn't show up. I called him several more times and again he failed to show up two more times. About a month later, he finally sent two of his workers to fix the opening. All they really did was slice the shingles open with a box cutter and left. They didn't even open all the openings.

After several more calls, Mr. Luna made several more appointments to come to my house. He has missed every single appointment. I finally made contact with him on the phone and he quickly changed his story. Now he tells me that he sub-contracted the job to someone else and the warranty is non transferable. Yet, Mr. Luna has not produced any documentation to me, the realtor, or the seller.

Mr Luna has made 8 or 9 appointments to come look at my roof and failed to make all but 1 of them. The one appointment he made was to reschedule for the next day, which he again failed to show up.  Now he won't take my calls or return any messages I leave. My realtor has also called him several times and he has ignored her calls as well.

As for his work, shingles were left ragged and hanging 1/2 inch to 2 inches over the flashing. Shingles are over/ underlapping in several places, and misaligned all over the place. Nails (some used rusty ones) were left protruding through the flashing, exposed, sticking out, and in places where nails should not be placed. The aluminum vents were bent and decoratively applied with excessive or not enough sealant. The ridge vents at the top were also damaged, improperly fastened and missing all the end caps.

Mr. Luna did a sub standard job using totally ignorant workers then attempted to hide his mess by not giving anyone any documentation. He has avoided everyone who has contacted him regarding my roof and denies being responsible. Even after being contacted by the BBB, Attorney General, The Federal Trade Commission, and my insurance company, he still refuses to acknowledge his responsibilities regarding my roof.

The seller moved away before we closed on the house and now refuses to take our phone calls as well. That leads me to believe they may have struck some kind of a deal. One that has left me with a pathetic roof that puts my home at risk.

A professional roofer I contacted to inspect my roof says it is the worst roof he's ever seen. He also said that the roof could have been done properly for the same price with the same materials that are currently used. The workmanship is what makes the roof job useless. Mr. Luna's lack of integrity and accountability clearly demonstrates that he and his business practices are to be avoided and does not care about complaints against his company.
