Long story - went to walgreens to purchase a Green Dot visa card - so I could purchase stuff online.  Three days later - went to walgreens to use the Green Dot card (put in 50.00) it wouldn't accept on purchase.  Later got a letter from Social Security saying that they're going to deposit my disability checks into GreenDot Visa every month.  I used my ATM (from bank) to purchase the GreenDot visa - bank gave them my deposit information and GreenDot is getting my checks, and charging me $5.00 a month for the service!!!!!

Now GreenDot has all my money!  AND I NEVER SIGNED AN APPLICATION!  That's what you get for buying a Gift card w/your ATM checking account. Of course, Walgreens and the Bank tried to call the 800 number given on the card - but you only got 4 options, none of which allowed you to speak to a real person!

I see...

AUTHOR: Striderq - (U.S.A.)

a lot of people claim stuff but have no proof. Then they lose their credibility by saying people who post that don't agree with them work for the company. And I see posts like yours that have nothing to do with what was posted. I pointed out that Green Dot (like any other financial institution/pre paid card/whatever) can not and will not change a direct deposit unless the account holder somehow authorizes it. If just one person proved that Green Dot changed a direct deposit without authorization, the feds would close the company completely. Now, the person may not have read or may not have understood what they approved, but I guarantee that they approved.

I also asked why this OP didn't just get a debit card from BOA. Neither of those things are in any way close to what you put in your post.

Evidently you never read the many greed dot complaints here

Yes green dot takes and keeps money as stated on the many numerous reports here and on the net.
That is why the must advertise to get new suckers to replace the ones that leave. Evidently you never read the many greed dot complaints here on ROR.

Type in "Green Dot" on the ROR searcg and see what pops up

Something not right right with complaint...

Green dot wouldn't/couldn't change your direct deposit without something from you to authorize it. But more importantly, why get a Green Dot card in the first place? Why not get a debit card from BOA that you can use to make your online purchases? Something more going on with this story than we've been told so far.

POSTED: Friday, May 11, 2012

We apologize if our card has not met your needs. The Green Dot prepaid debit card is not a gift card. Before using the card, it needs to be registered with your personal information. Customers can sign up to have their Social Security benefits direct deposited to their account when they register their card, but we do not do this automatically at the time of your purchase. Customer support is available 7 days a week from 5am -6pm pst, you will need to enter information to our automated system so we can direct your call to the specialist who can best assist you.  If you have not been able to reach customer support through our support telephone line, please send an email to Customer.Advocacy@greendotcorp.com, include your name, a contact number, a ticket number if you were provided one and a brief description of your issue.  We will review your issue and have a representative contact you.
