Create Space.com is a subsidary of Amazon.com. They present themselves as a publisher of books, music and other media. You are led to believe that Amazon.com will publish your book. In the process of converting your manuscript to a printed book, you are contacted by a Create Space agent who identifyies herself as "your publishing consultant." You later learn that Create Space is a publish on demand company. That means that you pay them to publish your book. When your book is finally published, it is void of any publisher's name. They claim they are a printng company only, not a publisher. That is fraud in any language. Without a publisher's name in the book, the book looks unprofessional and at first glance unworthy of purchase. Anyone viewing a copy will have no clue as to where they would purchse their own copy. I strongly recommend that if you are an author of a manuscript that you want published, do not go with Create Space.com.

Competitors Have Fun
AUTHOR: Pacione - (Chicagoland)

I can give you a lead if you want to see what these guys can do; check out one of my own publications and if you can see them kicking a*s and taking down names. For evidence I want to submit The Ethereal Gazette: Issue Five -- they fired the most formidable publishers they had on roster.
Seeing what you wrote man I am looking to publish an anthology of short stories based upon your complaints you had about Melissa Creeger or Ashley Hunter as these happened on her watch.
Knowing what you guys went through and I wasn't happy with how CreateSpace.com as Booksurge handled Collectives In A Forsaken Landscape and writng a highly controversial title got me fired from Lulu.com.
Linked here is my about.me and if you have dropbox.com account and was ripped off by CreateSpace.com and Lulu.com would you like to tell your stories in print if you can go 2500-4500 words about the horror stories you guys dealt with.
I am looking to edit this as last name only but I want to nail these bastards for enabling a plagiarist to sell their books on site again after terminating me. My about.me is found here if you want to reach me. This will be published with the one place with a protested publishing logo where it will be from afar people will think Lulu.com produced it. I was with Lulu.com for 10 years and CreateSpace.com for eight years but was fired from there on October 20, 2015, when I caught Brian Keene going after my SSN.

Are you kissing their a**?

I filed a formal complaint against CreateSpace.com and what they did was highly bigoted as the one who did the active firing was Ashley Hunter as Melissa Creeger is the ecr@createspace.com on record now but the thing is I tried to give my side in e-mail as I have a formal complaint against them. I was with Booksurge originally as I moved my few titles over to a new place you want to nail them they do what TheBookpatch, com coined as small farming. The ones who have the most insight on them are me and Angela Hoy of Booklocker.com as she published complaints against CreateSpace.com.
They f***** up with me big time where I do undercut them when Amazon.com noticed what I can do when I get my copies in bulk if they give me the money to get them. IngramSpark go with them and get the ISBN's through epubbud.com and isbnservices.com tell the latter that illinoishorrorman@gmx.com sent you and I get a referral per ISBN perchased. EPubBud operates my ISBN for The Ethereal Gazette: Issue Five as the ISBN deals with TheBookPatch are as equally cool too as they offer $25.00 up to $50.00 per ISBN which isn't bad when you think about it.
IngramSpark was someting that Lightning Source did because they were sick of Lulu.com -- so they were undercutting Lulu.com and Amazon.com is laughing because I am undercutting CreateSpace.com on the bulk copies. The Createspace.com price for the 210 page publications will be a little higher with TheBookPatch but they do it all in house -- meaning they are not working with LSI like Lulu.com and CreateSpace.com to. booklocker.com knew they were snakes. The Book Patch operates as my publisher when I published An Eye In Shadows which I don't mind because I've the guys work as he did some work with the Universal Solder Franchise. They also develped printtopress.com so you can do test copies to send to Ingram Spark and to other publishers as a prospect. I am giving you guys a few leads to break loose of Ashley Camile Hunter and Melissa Creeger.

CreateSpace.com is for Self-Publishing
AUTHOR: Brown Sugar Promotions LLC - ()
SUBMITTED: Thursday, June 27, 2013
As an independent company, Brown Sugar Promotions LLC has published titles through CreateSpace.com since 2010 and has had retail success via Amazon.com as well as the CreateSpace.com eStore option. As for the user who submitted the original report, CreateSpace.com is for "self-publishing" and is intended to be a simple, user friendly, cost effective way to publish your book [online] for free. Now things may start to get complicated once you choose the "paid publishing options" or if you do not pay to have your "publisher" listed via the appropriate sales channels of your liking. CreateSpace.com is the "default publisher" because they are generating and assigning the ISBN, again, unless you pay to have your own ISBN which is associated with the publisher to identify the corresponding title, author and format. This is not really an issue for those who are just seeking to create "a free title online" however more experienced users who intend to have multiple titles and formats are advised to establish a tracking system. This will be important to you as an author and/or publisher down the line. Though the intended purpose is to "create, publish a title online for free" with CreateSpace.com, it is general good practice to ALWAY READ YOUR OPERATING AGREEMENTS OR CONTRACT regardless if it is [noted as] free. If there is something within that agreement/contract that you do not understand or that you do not agree with or are not willing to do, do not sign or click OK. With all of that being stated, Brown Sugar Promotions LLC would still recommend CreateSpace.com to those who are writing for fun, as hobby or personal project or just those seeking to sample their publishing options before investing large amounts of money for more professional book covers, printing and distribution resources. CreateSpace is a Great Self-publish Co.
AUTHOR: artistwriter - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, November 01, 2012
I am now working on my third publication that CreateSpace has published. The books that I have published: Naked: Quilted Confessions of a Renegade Artist, Naked 2: Quilted Confessions of a Renegade Artist, and in progress I'm Not Crazy: Stigma Revealed (an art quilt exhibition catalog) have been beautifully published in a timely fashion.
I appreciate the fact that CreateSpace makes publications available to Amazon.com, CreateSpace Stores, and me (at a major discount) to sell. Their expanded distribution service also enables sales to institutions and libraries. These are resources that I could never reach on my own. To publish and distribute books with little or no initial capital outlay is a gift.
Every question that I have had regarding publishing my books has been instantly responded to by CreateSpace support. Their support people are courteous and knowledgeable.
I have simply set up my own publishing company name and logo, which I include on the back cover of every book and on the inside. If anyone asks me more, I tell them that the books are self-published. What's wrong with having your own publishing company?
Many great authors, such as Julia Cameron, author of The Artist's Way bestseller series of books, started out self-published. I am proud of my self-published books. I design and edit them as well as any publisher could, and I have received nothing but positive feedback from my customers. I would encourage anyone to use CreateSpace as their publisher. That is, if they have the intelligence and skill to use their resources.

This reviewer is misinformed
AUTHOR: Keith - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Saturday, September 24, 2011
This reviewer is misinformed on many counts. CreateSpace does not hold itself out to be a "publisher" of books, music and DVDs. If you read their terms of service, you will note that they make it very clear that they are not the publisher-the author or creator of the music or DVD is.
Since CreateSpace merged within the last year or two with another Amazon company, Booksurge, they do offer some paid publishing services in which they will assist the author in preparing their content for publication. However, they have always had a free option in which the author does all the work in preparing the content for publication.
The CreateSpace website walks the author step by step through the process of obtaining an ISBN for their book, creating and formatting the cover and interior files for publication, reviewing the proof before publication, and when the author is satisifed with the final product, the book, DVD, or CD is published in the author's name.
If the author desires, CreateSpace provides a free ISBN number for books. The only caveat if you chose the free ISBN is that when the book if published on Amazon, CreateSpace will be listed as the publisher because the ISBN issued by Bowker is owned by CreateSpace. However, the terms of service require the author to name themselves as the publisher on the copyright page of the book, and prohibit the author from displaying the CreateSpace name or logo in the book, CD, or DVD.
The author has the option of purchasing his or her own ISBN number for a nominal charge. If you elect to do this, then the author can list their own name or imprint as the publisher on Amazon. Many authors prefer to purchase their own ISBN number for this reason.
When all the steps to prepare the content for publication are complete, CreateSpace requires the author to purchase a proof copy for review. You can make changes to your content as many times as you want, but each time you do, you have to purchase another proof. CreateSpace will not finalize the project and submit it to Amazon for publication until the author signs off on it. Even after the book, DVD, or CD is published, you can make changes or corrections but must purchase another proof copy if you do.
CreateSpace makes no representations that they will promote the book, CD, or DVD. That is up to the author. They do provide you with the opportunity to self-publish your content on Amazon.com and other markets at a very nominal total cost. For most authors, that is worth a great deal. You still must promote your own work, but you can link your Amazon.com, CreateSpace e-store, or Barnes and Noble page to your own website or Facebook page. If you are willing to work to promote your own work, it is an excellent way to sell your book, CD, or DVD.
If this reviewer is dissatisfied with the quality of his published work, he has no one to blame but himself. Likewise, if he can't sell copies of his work, he has no one to blame but himself. To blame CreateSpace for his own failure to read the terms of service and failure to create a quality self-published work is misguided.

Createspace REQUIRES that you purchase and review a proof copy and sign off on it before they make your book available for sale. If the book is not to your satisfaction, you only have yourself to blame. You are also allowed to fill in your own publisher information and there is nothing preventing you from having a page with copyright information, autobiography, web site links to where your book can be purchased...it's all up to you.
I'm currently using Createspace for my self-published humor book, and could not be more pleased. They do take a substantial chunk of the profits to make your book available for sale on Amazon, but the quality of the book manufacture is indistinguishable from what you will find on the store shelves at B&N or Borders.

Couldn't let this stand
AUTHOR: Josh - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, December 29, 2010
I work for a competitor of Createspace, and I was looking through Ripoff Report to make certain that we hadn't accidentally disenfranchised any of our customers when I found this report. Normally I would be pretty happy hearing that they had let down a customer --we get a lot of business that way, but this is simply ridiculous.
Createspace is a "self publishing" company, not a publisher. This is also the case with all the serious competitors in this area. Like with all of the economically effective offerings in this business, the author provides documents to be printed and takes on all duties as publisher. How this author could be upset with a company that printed exactly what was provided ispretty mystifying.
I have little doubt that the final product was "unprofessional and at first glance unworthy of purchase," but I'd think that this has much more to do with the author in question than the printer.
